the midnight dinner»
You stare at the envelope sitting on the table, the words "Le Cirque Des Reves" emblazoned on the front in shimmery letters of gold. You had found it outside your door and you briefly wonder how the Circus knew your address. The same way they knew when they sent you the letter for the opening night. You guess. With trembling fingers, you pick up the envelope and open it, sliding it out and unfolding it. A bonnet of a castle occupy the top of the letter and the longer you stare, the more certain you are that the waters in it are moving and the leaves falling.
Your eyes roam downwards, resting on the title of the letter momentarily. The caligraphy was different from the first invitation you received. Instead of the flambouyant cursive script, this one was more subdued, like the careful lettering of a child. It dawns on you that this is another invitation as you continue reading.
"A very good evening __________.
As per the old Circus' traditions, a Midnight Dinner is held whenever our time at a certain location is up in celebration of our success. It will be held on the 14th of June at the palace and the Circus will be closed. A map is enclosed in the envelope. This is an opportunity for both Dreamers and Performers to interact on equal footing and there will be an event conducted to spice up the night. Please don your formal wear and we look forward to your participation.
Yours truly,
Elle Fanning
Ringmaster of Le Cirque Des Reves"
The faint tingling of excitement begins in your chest and the warmth spreads, through you. You recall the trapeze artists' high up in the tents, the illusionists and the animal tamers. The back of your tongue burns with the questions you thought you would never be able to ask, the words of admiration you would never utter. This is your chance.
