The Creatures
If you don't want to play a human, you can pick any supernatural being you like. Just remember, that you come from the Shadows. So no beings associated with heaven or hell allowed. You can be an entirely different species, like a vampire/werewolf or be similar to a human except with powers (a witch or warlock). Regardless what you choose, you may pick one power. You can also choose to have a 100% humanoid appearance, or not.
Apart from neutral creatures that can be played as either good or evil (or both) there are monsters in the Shadows. These do not have a conscience and are mindless things that do nothing but kill, torment and torture. Their primary goal is not to kill itself (it's just a common side-effect), but to evoke extreme fear and pain in their victims. They can be incorporated into your role-plays as NPCs at your discretion.
As a human, you can choose to not know of the Shadows or.. well.. the opposite, obviously. If you want your character to be aware of its existence partially or not, please make sure there's a valid reason for it to be so. It is possible to be the child of a human and a supernatural being, but as one you have no powers. Only 'purebred' children attain powers, but it is impossible to role-play a (e.g.) half Vampire - half Witch. Even if your parents are off different species, you must pick only one of the two for yourself.
Below are a few attributes supernatural beings have, not counting their power.
Demon: These creatures are related to Incubi, but share only minimal common traits. Demons can use their voice to convince a certain species to do something (Hypnosis). What species they can use this skill on, depends on the Demon, but it only works on one. Besides this power of persuasion, they also have their individual power.
Elves: Beside their individual power, elves release pheromones that heighten their ual attractiveness to other species of any gender. This happens regardless of their actual physical appearance, relationship status and ual orientation. At all times, whether it is beneficial or not, they release these pheromones.
Fae: Fae are a species widely unknown even to Shadow-walkers, since they have a 2nd home to live in (the Fae realm) and are usually not found in this world. Each one of these beings can teleport to and from their world and when in the Fae world, they gain the ability to communicate with non-sapient beings. Over time, the Fae lost their wings and so they can not fly. In contrast to all the other creatures, they have a hierarchy within their race with the king and his kin at the very top.
Gumiho: Also known as nine-tailed foxes, these beings can shift from their humanoid form into their Gumiho form. When all nine of their tails are out, their individual power strengthens greatly. But on the down-side, their defense also weakens a lot and they are more sustainable to supernatural damage. Oh and they like to eat liver.
Incubus: Next to eating food and in general staying healthy, Incubus sustain their life-force by engaging in (very frequent) ual activities. Should they withhold, they will first become aggressive and then increasingly depressed. Beside their individual power, these supernatural beings have the power to increase fatigue. If especially strong, even to the point of inducing sleep.
Something-gami: These creatures are spirits that are reborn in human shape. They are created by for example sacrificing a dog (in which case it would be called inugami, inu = dog). Usually the reborn spirit protects the one who created him, but sometimes things don't quite work out. Something-gami have the abiltiy to transform into their spirit shape, where they are translucent and can move through objects.
Pixie: These beings are not to be mistaken for elves and usually more on the mischievous side, but are a neutral faction. Just like anything else, they can be good or bad. All pixies have the ability to sense other people's emotions, regardless of how hard they try to mask them. They are kings at exposing lies. And then, of course, each pixie has their individual power.
Satyr: Unique to this species, is the power to manipulate the humility of others. They can make others feel more modesty, shame and humiliation. And additionally, of course, they have their individual power.
Shape-shifter: Shape-shifters have the ability to take the form of any sapient being they have encountered before. However they cannot 'become' a person and therefor get his powers, they can only assume a physical appearance. Besides this, each shape-shifter also has their own, individual power.
Vampire: Usually, vampires have an odd eye-colour which varies depending on the individual. Their main nutrition is unclotted blood and they have retractable fangs. Beside their individual power, vampires can shape-shift into a bat and vice versa. Drinking blood is absolutely necessary for their survival and much like starving, they grow weak and unstable when they don't.
Warlock: They have the appearance of humans in every way. Beside their power, they can concoct magical potions with a large variety of effects, depending on their talent in potion-making. Taking a potion does not replace attaining a power, neither is a potion as potent as a power.
Were-something: Were-(?) have the ability to shift into their respective animal form. While most were-animals can make themselves look like humans, some cannot 100% adapt their appearance and keep some physical attributes of their animal even in humanoid form. Werewolves become increasingly aggressive at a full moon.
