IT HAS BEEN DECREED. On the day of every citizen's 18th birthday, they shall be subject to a comprehensive test (10.29.45b) in an attempt to match them to their OTHER*. The OTHER will be guaranteed to be a perfect match in regards to socioeconomic status, political alignment, and compability. A tracker will be administered to each citizen shortly before taking the test in a completely safe, painless, and minimally invasive fashion. This tracker alerts the citizen to the presence of their OTHER, who will be matched to each and every citizen shortly after completion of the test. In the event that any one citizen cannot be matched to another, the tracker is equipped to release an anti-aging serum into the bloodstream to keep said citizen 18 until matched up with his or her OTHER's tracker.
*An OTHER is known colloquially as a soulmate. They are in all aspects, perfectly matched and suited to each other.
Jobs will be henceforth assigned to you* based on a test you were administered from a young age. Upon the eve of your 18th birthday, you should receive a letter that states the training you have received is appropriate to be applied in different jobs. Jobs will have an effect on your socioeconomic position as well as standing in the public's eyes, but it is a prouder thing to serve than to reap.
