Not even the Elven priests know how, when and why the anima appeared. The anima believe they existed in this realm all along, just in a different part. As a race, they are hard to describe, mainly because they are all very different. The anima have very strong primal instincts, such as protectiveness, fear and the fight or flight reaction. The behaviour of an anima usually reflects of what animal they are an anima of, as well as how much self-control they have over themselves. The anima have a reputation as beings with inferior intelligence. Although their strong primal instincts can simplify their thought process, this does not mean they are stupid. The extent of their animalistic behaviour varies strongly for each anima. Some anima train specifically to suppress their primal instincts, although these can never be eradicated completely.

The anima are not a communal race like the elves and the damned. From their perspective, they aren't even one race. The anima prefer to separate themselves by what they are an anima of (dogs with dogs, birds with birds). However, even among one such group, the anima are not tightly knit. It's every man for himself out there.
 

What binds all anima together is their extreme protectiveness of those they care for, and their ruthlessness towards those they do not.

Relations with the other races

Having co-existed with the elves for quite a long time, the anima are more familiar with the elves than with the damned. However, as a race, the anima have no preference for either the elves or the damned.

Livelihoods

The anima do not need to live in huts or cottages, nor do they need to purchase or gather food, they hunt it. At least this applies for the more primal of the anima. The others find whatever livelihood they can. This can be working as a mercenary for the elves or the damned, or anything else.

Powers

All anima have the racial abilities of being able to mimic whatever they are an anima of, as well as superhuman strength. The anima tend to have additional personal enhancement and physical powers. The anima are compatible with emotion magic and clairvoyant abilities such as pre- or retrocognition. The anima are the (physically) strongest of all the races.

Religion

The anima cannot emphasize with the concept of religion at all.
