Celestial Bronze
Celestial bronze is mined by the Cyclopes from Mount Olympus. They shape the ore by tempering the metal in Mount Etna and cooling it in the River Lethe. The metal is deadly to creatures of the magical world. Unlike lesser mortals, demigods are also affected by it because of their blood. Artifacts of celestial bronze are known to emit a faint bronze glow. It disperses monsters into dust once a sword or weapon made up of Celestial bronze passes through them.
- According to Reyna, Celestial Bronze is much rarer than Imperial Gold. However, this could simply be due to Camp Jupiter not having a large deposit (as they are on the opposite coast).
- Celestial Bronze is one of three magical ores, the other two being Imperial Gold and Stygian Iron.
- Except for Stygian Iron, Celestial Bronze and Imperial Gold are the only metals which turn monsters into dust.
- "Celestial" means "from the sky" or "heavenly."
- While Celestial Bronze is normally mined from Olympus, if Hephaestus is upset with his work, he throws pieces of Celestial Bronze into the mortal world.
- As it is not silver, it cannot harm lycanthropes.
- Unlike Imperial Gold, Celestial Bronze seems almost as abundant as iron to Greek Demigods, as not only their weapons made out of it, but it seems like almost everything the Greek Demigods make is made out of it, using it as a magical alternative to what other metals would normally be used for weapons.
Imperial Gold
Imperial Gold is a blessed metal used by Roman demigods and legacies at Camp Jupiter. It is forged at Camp Jupiter in their sacred temple. Chrysaor was the first to wield an Imperial Gold blade. Imperial Gold is very rare, as it was consecrated in Ancient Rome. The ore is specifically deadly to monsters, immortals, and their descendants. In addition, it is extremely volatile, causing devastating destruction if broken.
- The making of Imperial Gold was a closely guarded secret of the Roman emperors.
- King Midas states that it was consecrated in the Temple of Jupiter while Reyna stated it was the Pantheon.
- Michael Varus lost most of the Twelfth Legion's Imperial Gold weaponry and armor in the 1980's. It was retrieved by Percy, Frank, and Hazel and given to the campers at Camp Jupiter.
-
In The Son of Neptune, it is mentioned that Celestial Bronze is even rarer than Imperial Gold by the people at Camp Jupiter. However, Imperial Gold is never used by demigods at Camp Half-Blood, meaning Imperial Gold is rare to Camp Half-Blood in the same way Celestial Bronze is rare to Camp Jupiter. Although both sides have had contact with the different
metals before The Heroes of Olympus.- Reyna did state that the Legion use to house a few Celestial Bronze weapons in the armory.
- Alabaster Torrington, a Greek demigod son of Hecate, uses an Imperial Gold sword.
- Imperial Gold was simply called enchanted gold until the Romans learned how to make it, officially naming it Imperial Gold.
- The first Imperial Gold weapon was owned by Chrysaor, a son of Poseidon.
- As it is not silver, it cannot harm lycanthropes.
Stygian Iron
Stygian Iron, like Celestial Bronze and Imperial Gold, is a magical metal capable of absorbing or the very essence of monsters and injuring gods, Titans and Giants. However, unlike Imperial Gold and Celestial Bronze, it can harm both mortals and monsters. When seen, it is shown to scare monsters even more than the other two metals. It also appears to have significant effect on ghosts, and creatures from the Underworld. Stygian Iron is mined and forged in the Underworld and cooled in the River Styx, producing a clean indestructible blade. Because it is cooled in the River Styx, it is believed that only deities from the Underworld and their demigod children can use it, but other powerful beings have been known to use Stygian Iron.
One large difference between Celestial Bronze and Stygian Iron is the way they kill monsters. Celestial Bronze dispels a monsters' essence and returns it to Tartarus, but Stygian Iron is stated to actually absorb the monsters essence, which most likely means a Stygian Iron weapon can keep monsters in Tartarus for a longer time period.
- Imperial Gold is Roman, Celestial Bronze is Greek, and Stygian Iron is from the Underworld. It is then possible that the children of Pluto (as well as Hades) could use this metal since the Underworld exists in both Greek and Roman mythology.
- Only Hades, Thanatos, and Nico have been stated to have used Stygian Iron so far.
- When a monster touches it, it will get its essence into the blade. However, it is unknown if the monster will ever reform or if it will just take longer for them to reform in Tartarus.
- As it is not silver, it cannot harm lycanthropes.
- Like other enchanted metals, Stygian Iron gives off a faint light.
List of possible weapons:
Swords
A sword is a common weapon used by many Greek and Roman demigods. They are often made with Celestial bronze. In the case of Roman demigods and legacies the swords are made of Imperial Gold. Children of Hades or Pluto can use Stygian Iron. Swords consist of two parts: the hilt and the blade.
Spears
They are commonly used for ing, and they can be used to attack multiple enemies. A variation of spear is a javelin which is used for throwing. Spears are sometimes powered with electricity. The spear's main advantage is the reach improvement. Warriors with spears can attack enemies with swords or daggers with almost no risk at all. It's commonly used in combination with a shield.
Bow and arrow
Bows are devices used to launch arrows. Arrows are wood shafts with tips made of Celestial Bronze, Imperial Gold, Silver, or simply regular metals (such as aluminum or carbon).A bow is a curved stick with a string tied to both ends. They are usually made of animal tendon and horn. Arrows are thin sticks with a sharp tip, sometimes a rock or metal arrowhead, with animal feathers to help it fly. The Hunters of Artemis have silver bows and arrows.
Dagger
A dagger is a fighting weapon with a sharp point designed or capable of being used as a ing or stabbing weapon. The design dates to human prehistory, and daggers have been used throughout human experience to the modern day in close combat confrontations. Many ancient cultures used adorned daggers in ritual and ceremonial purposes, a trend which continues to the present time in the form of art knives. The distinctive shape and historic usage of the dagger have made it iconic and symbolic.
Roman Spatha
The Roman Spatha was a type of weapon used primarily by Roman cavalrymen and hired barbarians. It is longer than a Gladius and about the size of a medieval sword. It allows the soldier to hit both ground fighters and other calvarymen. It was also used by Germanic legions such as the ones destroyed in Teutobuorg's Forest.
Cavalary normally used it in combination with a small shield in the other arm. It provides some protection but also a nice range of impact. When used by infantry it worked the same way as the gladius.
Gladius
The Gladius is a sword used as the standard and the primary equipment by the Roman Legionaries, since General Marius, and is a common weapon of the Roman demigods. A fully equipped Roman Legionary was armed with a shield, several javelins, a sword, and often a dagger. Conventionally, the javelins would be thrown to disable shields of enemies before engaging the enemy, at which point the gladius would be drawn. The soldier generally led with his shield and with his sword.
The gladius has a comparatively shorter blade than ancient Greek swords. Possessing no crossguard and a large pommel, the sword was forged with a lighter and consequently faster blade. The gladius required a fighting style more based on ing and moving about than the cutting and slashing of heavier and sturdier blades.
Wand
A wand (also: magic wand) is a thin, straight, hand-held stick of wood, stone, ivory, or metal. Generally, in modern language, wands are ceremonial and/or have associations with magic but there have been other uses, all stemming from the original meaning as a synonym of rod and virge, both of which had a similar development. A stick giving length and leverage is perhaps the earliest and simplest of tools. Children of Hecate are mostly the ones possessing these kinds of weapon.
