dementor attack
announcements
The sky, sunny despite the fall of gleaming crystals, had dimmed all too suddenly.
It was as if a cloud had been cast above, all light had been seized from where the sun’s rays touched and replaced by shadows that were all too dark, all too dreary. A cold rain started to fall, quickly drenching those attending the Quidditch match as the little warmth had been stripped, and an icy blanket had fallen over the stadium.
In their excitement over the first match of the semester, not one student or professor was bothered by the change in weather. Even as they shivered and hugged their clothes against themselves, not one person seemed to stop cheering on their desired team. The distraction was so much so that even as dark figures loomed into view, the students barely noticed. That is until the excitement was drained from them.
It was as though every happy thought in the world had been dry, the stadium soon falling quiet in response to the despair and sadness that seemed to ebb into their emotions.
❝ All players get down to the ground now! ❞ Madam Hooch's shrill voice called out, panic drenched in her voice as the air began to thicken with fog, a dark spell bringing ice to slowly creep onto the brooms that flew by.
There were five, six, maybe even more. It was as if time stood still as the students remained unmoving in their spots, watching with terror as more seemed to appear. Dark figures, cloaked yet transparent like smoke in the sky. And as they loomed closer, it was clear that they were consumed with hunger, starving from no longer being part of Azkaban for decades, had been drawn to the happy feast the mass of Hogwarts students provided.
❝ Dementors! ❞ Hagrid’s cry boomed through the stillness, and it was as if the loudness of his voice had awoken the figures petrified in their seats.

Professor Mcgonagall was the first to stand, wand raised to the sky. One by one did the professors stand, too, both in valiance and fear, taking their headmistress’ example, with each of them pointing their wands to the skies as the shadowed figures, now counted by dozens, came dangerously close.
❝ Expecto Patronum! ❞
❝ Dementors are among the foulest creatures that walk this earth. They infest the darkest, filthiest places, they glory in decay and despair, they drain peace, hope, and happiness out of the air around them... Get too near a Dementor and every good feeling, every happy memory will be out of you. If it can, the Dementor will feed on you long enough to reduce you to something like itself... soulless and evil. You will be left with nothing but the worst experiences of your life. ❞
— Remus Lupin.
This announcement marks the first major event of the Spring term. Dozens of dementors have invaded the Quidditch match, which means that this is your character's chance to cast a patronus charm.

❝ Well, when it works correctly, It conjures up a Patronus, which is a kind of antiDementor — a guardian that acts as a shield between you and the Dementor. The Patronus is a kind of positive force, a projection of the very things that the Dementor feeds upon — hope, happiness, the desire to survive — but it cannot feel despair, as real humans can, so the Dementors can’t hurt it. But I must warn you, Harry, that the charm might be too advanced for you. Many qualified wizards have difficulty with it. ❞

Be warned: a patronus charm is difficult to conjure. To simulate this, you must roll the dice in the ❛ dice room ❜ under the ❛ muggle zone ❜ tab. Do not follow the rolls in the room.
For this event, the only sucessful numbers are 1, 3, and 6.
» rolling a 1 or 3 results in an incorporeal patronus.
— these are not fully formed patronuses and take no shape.
— these are weaker forms.
» rolling a 6 results in an corporeal patronus.
— it is the strongest form a patronus can take, being able to fully drive dementors away.
— the specific animal forms that a corporeal patronus takes will vary from person to person and reflect each individual's innermost personality.
* If you roll a successful 6, you can choose to cast an incorporeal patronus. This is up to you.

* If you roll a successful 6, you can choose to cast an incorporeal patronus. This is up to you.
* However, if you roll a 1 or 3, you only have the option to cast an incorporeal patronus. You do not have the option to cast a corporeal.
* You also have the option to ignore your successful rolls, or not roll at all if you know / want your character to be incapable of conjuring a patronus.
If you are unsuccessful with casting a patronus charm, you may roll one more time, for a total of two rolls. You are not allowed to exceed two rolls.
There are example posts for every single type of cast: corporeal, incorporeal, and a failed conjure.
Reminder to please be mindful of others and keep your posts on the shorter side (two paras max) to allow for easy interaction!
