Lahad Datu: Two police officers were believed killed after being shot at in a water village, about 3km from Sema town.
However, police denied that the incident is related to the stand-off incident in Lahad Datu. State Police Commissioner, Datuk Hamza Taib said 4pm on Saturday, a group of about 40 police officers from Sema police headquarters went for an operation to detain several criminals, believed in possession of firearms.
"The police team went to several places and upon arriving at Kampung Simunul, several shots were fired at them," said Hamza.
Hamza said the criminals, believed to be two or three persons, have yet to be detained.
He said the Sema police have surrounded the village areas to search for the criminals.
Hamza also denied the rumors that the Sema police station is in danger of being attacked.
