in australia right now and its about whether or not gay marriage should be legalised.

now, i respect both point of views to an extent. if you're a hardcore homophobe without any good reason as to why you are, then what the are you doing? if you're using religious beliefs as a way to defend yourself or use it as a way to answer people why you dislike this issue, then thats wrong. you don't ing use religion as a way to get your point across because people won't be able to argue back. you can't argue a belief because that is what a person believes in. but listen, i don't remember reading in the bible that jesus hated gay people. like, i really dont get it. i'm not that religious as some people i know, but i still attend church and all the scriptures i've been hearing all year round have not once said anything about gay people. they've mentioned , murderers, rapists, etc. but were any gays involved? no.

but point of views i do understand and can tolerate are those who don't use religion has an excuse but instead use their own views in life. this is a personal and moral view. they just personally think, marriage should be kept for a man and a woman. and thats completely fine, because that was all they said. they didnt involve "oh but, adam and eve was made not adam and steve." "two gay people kissing is disgusting and makes me wanna puke" -- oh yeah? as if seeing two heteros digging their tongues down deep into each others throats in public isn't gross.

one of the things i overheard in uni was, that gays need to calm down because they already have all these privilages, aren't they enough? why do they need marriage too? to be honest, i was having this conversation with family and friends and asked them what they thought of it. my gay uncle agreed with that statement. he said, everything was going fine, i appreciated the mardi gras they've given us to enjoy every march and i am also glad that we have our own section in passports, but that was until people of this generation decided it was okay to ask for marriage. and i was surprised cause this was the same uncle who got tormented by his own father by dunking his head into a barrel of water in order to make him become "straight".

but, how many years have the lgbti community been dealing with such hurt and disapproval? sure, they have the mardi gras to celebrate a time and day for them, but is it really enough? is it really enough, to show the public that its okay to be different and not part of the norms society wants. i just -- it , y'know. also, what i've realised when people talk about gay marriage, they automatically think of "men", not women, but men. like, whats so bad about seeing two men deeply in love with each other together? because i sure as hell have no problem with that whatsoever. but you seem to think its okay to watch lesbian but still be a homophobe. okay, so what is the difference between two girls kissing each other compared to two guys? you tell me.

anyway, i found this link that was posted around this early morning? what do you guys think of it?

it's hard to have a gaytime when your government won't legalise marriage equality!

tbh, i find anyone voting no... ehh. side eye worthy. i see no good or valid reason to oppose same marriage? in the end, it's not changing any religious definitions of what a marriage is or its freedoms—something that a lot of people seem to miss. this is about the recognition of the lgbti community under a legal institution; they should be entitled to have the same rights as heteros. having a separate union designated for same couples is not equality.

also, there's this absurd argument going around about how same marriages affect an upbringing of a child's heath and well-being so i'm dropping this https://theconversation.com/factcheck-are-children-better-off-with-a-mother-and-father-than-with-same--parents-82313

i just want point out this article:

http://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/gay-marriage/my-dads-incredible-reaction-when-i-came-out-as-gay/news-story/07457452124ca5b8a720557915effac8

and zoom into what i think was the most important quote for those who use religion in a wrong way.

'“Jesus said everybody needs to love and be loved,” he says. “Everyone is equal before God. What part of that are these people missing?'

love thy neighbour, right? so why can't some people seem to do that?

It was interesting to read your uncle's statement. I want to say other things but the right words won't come to mind. The article left me a little confused though
