A ship in a harbor is safe, but that's not what ships are built for.
The Lantern
A rich merchant ship known to ship stock back and forth between the islands and countries. Sometimes this stock is just food and necessary supplies, other times it's royal jewels and the finest wines. Most of the crew will never really know what cargo they are transporting until it has reached it's destination, or been taken from them by the pirates that scour the seas. The crew of The Lantern are fairly relaxed and laid back, usually just enjoying their time at sea and the honest money that their job earns them. Of course sometimes they have to defend themselves against pirates, and thanks to this the Captain arranges for his newer crew to be trained to defend themselves and to eventually defend the ship.
