Lifetimes ago, Earth became uninhabitable and humans were forced to venture into uncharted space. To serve as a waypoint btween their colonies, they created the space station Teccypso which orbits somewhere between Mars and Jupiter. For centuries, it has been a strategic point for trade and has become a melting pot of alien races and beliefs. Of course, floating on the equivalent of a metal can with vastly different people isn't exactly paradise. Racial tensions, socioeconomic disparity, opposing factions, and the reality that you are just one disaster away from the deadly vaccum of space can complicate things. But like a star's light, shining great distances even after it has burned out, we endure.

event horizon /əˈvent,ēˈvent həˈrīzən/ The invisible boundary around a black hole past which nothing can escape the gravitational pull - not even light.

Event Horizon is an upcoming sci-fi AU roleplay that will be set in the far future, on a space station inhabited by multiple different aliens and humans. Inactivity will be set to two weeks. Aiming for a self-paced, plot driven vibe. All ethnicities and orientations will be accepted, since it obviously doesn't make sense to limit things with there being legit aliens involved. There will be premade alien race skeletons (which will be posted later) that writers can choose from, but they are also welcome to create their own unique ones.

BELOW IS A PREVIEW OF THE PREMADE FACTIONS.

the obsidian syndicate — an underground criminal organization which all the illegal activity (drugs, human trafficking, banned goods, gambling, etc) on the station is tied to. their symbol, a black crescent moon, can be seen throughout the station in areas controlled by the cartel. while under one overarching label, there are countless smaller groups which operate with their own set of rules and within specific territories. any off-world criminal must get their approval before conducting business on teccypso and a portion of their haul is paid as a tithe.

the people's meridian — aka the meridian. those that fight for the rights of the lower class citizens on teccypso. they are largely averse to the upper class and the current governing bodies, often organizing protests to try to bring awareness to the struggles of those that would otherwise gladly be overlooked. while they are seen as radical, their demonstrations never intentionally escalate to violence. however, there are some within the rebellious organization that believe progress will only be made by forcing people's hands.

the dark horizon — a more violent sect that branched off the meridian which believe that the only way to enact change is through fear tactics and strong arming the upper class. they are not opposed to pushing people out of air locks, resorting to blackmail, or making those who stand in their way disappear. they are suspected to have close ties with the syndicate, though neither faction openly admits to a direct partnership.

ephemeris — a secret society, of sorts, that is comprised of upper class and influential people on the station that work behind the scenes to control aspects of public life in order to benefit themselves. for example, they may provide funding or weaponry to an organization like the dark horizon to stir up tensions in the lower class, while also backing a political figure who's goal is to soothe these issues and thusly gain more public approval. these people have some stake in how things are managed on the space station and see manipulating the people as a means to a profitable end. one prominent member in the past was a researcher who used those living in the slums as a large experiment by putting chemicals in the water supply. the intent was to see if it made them more resistant to bone deterioration in low g during adolescence, but it caused many young teccs to die. it was passed off as a malfunction in the purification system.

stars unit — station tactical authoritarian response unit. an elite unit of law enforcement directly controlled by the governing body of the station. they are rarely actively deployed, as the fear of them is usually deterrent enough. the ious instances they have been deployed for are rebel revolts and to quell syndicate conflicts. sometimes one will be sent out as a show of force when the station must implement rationing protocols. once they are activated, they serve as judge and jury, meaning they do not need the approval of a higher authority to take whatever action they deem necessary to pacify a situation. each star is equipped with a mechanical power suit which allows them to adapt to almost any environment, including zero gravity. it is also equipped with epidural injections of pain killers, steroids, and a variety of other medications to make the wearer adapt to stressors which may hinder their performance. they usually work alone, but may be deployed as a team in extreme circumstances. they are referred to as the code names bishop, rook, knight, and queen (all the influencial pieces when trying to win in chess) and their real identities are kept secret. because of this, when not deployed, most have alternate careers and hobbies, but can be pulled away at a moment's notice.
