The Bell Witch Legend

Lately I've been fascinated with a very famous ghost story about the Bell Witch. The events that occured happened in Adams, Tennasee around the year 1818. The witch came after John Bell Sr and his family but she mainly targeted his daughter Betsy Bell. Betsy was, quite often pinched, smacked, had her hair pulled, all kinds of horrible beatings from the entity. Some people claimed that it was Kate Batts: A woman who hated John Bell Sr and wanted revenge on him for something I can't remember exactly though.

But anyway.

Each family member experienced something. They'd hear what sounded like rats knawing at their bed posts and such...nobody could see it, but it's also said that this witch could have conversations with people and even shake their hands.

What I found most interesting though, was that future president Andrew Jackson actually spent the night in the Bell family cabin to see if the witch was real. He apparently fled from it once he encountered it saying 'I'd rather face the entire British army, then spend a night with the Bell Witch'. I don't know if it's for sure true, but it's interesting none the less ^^

I think around the year 1820 was when John Bell Sr finally passed away. A poison had been slipped into his medicine before it was given to him, it wasn't any of the family members, some claimed it was the witch. During his funeral, throughout the whole thing the Bell Witch laughed and sang drunken sailor songs. She didn't stop until the last person left the property.

Sometime later, she did eventually leave the family alone but promised to return years later.

To this very day, the Bell Family property has had numerous ghost sightings. Like a group of people chit chatting can be heard or the sound of  children playing.

I hope to visit this spot someday, it sounds really cool ^^ I'm fascinated with ghosts/spirits and all, but I don't want to encounter one anytime soon XD
