Ah October:
One of my favorite months and Fall is one of my favorite seasons but anywho.
There's a very interesting story I discovered some time ago actually, one of my favorite myths/urban tales. It's called 'The Bell Witch of Tennesee'.
In the year 1818 was around when John Bell Sr and his family moved to the town of Adams. The first night it happened, the Bells heard what sounded like rats gnawing at their bed posts. According to legend, the witch was said to be believed to be a woman named Kate Batts. There was an intense hatred between her and John Bell through the years they'd known each other, many actually accused her of being a witch herself due to her 'strange' behaviors.
Time passed and the Bells soon started to hear faint, disembodied voices throughout the cabin: It wasn't until some time later when Betsy Bell was under a horrific attack. Her hair was yanked, she was brutually hit multiple times by an unseen force. John and her suffered the worst of it for unknown reasons. There was even a report supposedly of future president Andrew Jackson and his men spending a night in the Bell cabin though he quickly fled that same night he stayed claiming 'I'd rather fight the entire British army than spend a night with the Bell Witch'.
In 1820, John Bell Sr had finally been taken by an illness he'd been fighting.
Supposedly, poison is what actually took his life. Someone (or something) slipped poison in the bottle resulting in his death quicker.
Throughout his entire funeral, it's said the Bell Witch laughed and laughed. Sang drunken sailor songs in a loud, cackling voice until the very last person left the funeral.
To this day, the old Bell family farm is said to be haunted. Filled with spirits of the past, voices like a group of people talking and the sound of children playing. The Bell Witch Cave is where it's said the Bell Witch fled to. Remaining dormant until she'd return who knows when.
Note: This is actually a 'short' version of the tale because I only remembered bits and pieces of it ^^; I do question this story sometimes but whether I believe it or not it's fascinating to me either way
