"You will see," his parents had said, "Staying at the royal palace will be great! It is an opportunity that you must not miss, even if it may sound very unfortunate at the moment. We promise that we will see each other again. It is only temporary, Jongin."
Sure, the royal palace was very nice and living with the royal family was something he probably wouldn't ever experience in his life again, but his parents weren't there. Jongin was worried. There was a possibility that war would break out, and his homeland would be the first thing to disappear if that were to happen. His parents were still there. This was extremely nerve-wracking for a young man like him.
On top of that, Jongin didn't feel completely at ease in the royal palace. It wasn't very different from the palace he used to live in, though, but everything seemed much more expensive and... Cold. It just didn't feel like home. He didn't feel like he completely belonged there, either. Everyone seemed so pale here, and he thought he was really sticking out like a sore thumb. Of course, he knew that his darker complexion didn't mean he was not good looking. He'd heard maids talking about how it made him look much more interesting, and how his accent made him sound very attractive. Jongin would have appreciated hearing such compliments if he didn't feel like he was being stared at every time he left his apartments.
Then, there was also the matter of the prince. Jongin found him extremely intimidating, mostly because he never saw him. He'd been there for three days, and he still didn't know what he looked like. He'd heard that he was not so surprisingly tall and pale, and that he was his age, but other than that... He didn't know anything about him. He was about to find out, though, because he'd been invited for a bout of fencing against him today. Jongin couldn't say no. He loved fencing. So, he came out of the dressing room, wearing his suit and his helmet, holding his saber firmly. He didn't know who the prince exactly was, but he needed to distract himself from all of his problems and this bout of fencing was the perfect opportunity to do so.
