Halcyon
Was it too elaborate?

Huffing out a sigh, he forced himself to drop his hands from his mask, resisting the temptation to adjust it or take it off altogether. Those were the rules of the game—a game which, occasionally, he wondered why he’d joined. He could list off all the reasons that made him fill out that form, but he didn’t think it would make him feel any better. He’d done it on an odd whim and despite having gotten this far, he still wasn’t sure whether or not he regretted it.

He didn’t typically give in to his fancies, but it seemed that all those of years of holding back had culminated into… this. Voluntary house arrest until he either gave up or found someone to be with. What had he been thinking? His time between jobs could be better spent than in another fruitless search that would probably end badly.

Hell, he could give up now if he wanted. Nobody would stop him from leaving. But…

Giving in, he carefully removed the mask, turning it over in his hands. It was an ornate affair: delicate gold filigree swirls against a black backdrop, accentuated by the occasional feather and crowned in the centre with a gleaming gem. For all its ostentatiousness, though, he knew it would serve its purpose well. The gleaming gold was the perfect façade. Here, with the mask on, he was not him. He was one among many, all of them looking for the same thing.

He wouldn’t think that anyone would bother looking beyond all the smoke and mirrors to actually find out who he was, but that was what he was here for. And after all, everyone here was masked, just the same as him. Maybe that would make a difference.

Breathing in, he reached up to carefully fix the mask in its place again before carefully smoothing down his suit. “Halcyon,” he said softly, remembering the name he’d filled out on the form. That had been another silly caprice, to choose a strange poetic word for his pseudonym instead of something more practical. But he supposed it worked as well as anything else. “I suppose I should get used to referring to myself as that.” At least for as long as he stayed here.

Standing, Halcyon strode to his door and out into the mansion.
Appearance
Halcyon’s black hair is cut fairly short, but he’s allowed his fringe to grow out and remain somewhat overlong. He’s much more likely to be called pretty than traditionally handsome; he stands at roughly 180 centimetres, but his build is lean and almost deceptively thin. He cares quite a bit for his appearance and health and so makes it a point to keep fit, though he doesn’t particularly enjoy physical activity.

While he tends to fall back on wearing button-ups and dress shirts (basically his work clothes) when he has no idea what to wear, which is often, he actually does have a surprisingly good grasp of fashion—mostly due to his anxiety about keeping up appearances. It’s not his forte, but he knows enough to appear decent when he’s forced out of his office clothes.

Once, in a fit of rebellion, Halcyon got a tattoo; he’s still not entirely sure whether or not he regrets doing it, but he’s thankful he chose to place it somewhere easy to hide. Here in the mansion, he doesn't go out of his way to hide it, but nor does he show it off.
Personality
Neat, organised and meticulous, Halcyon is remarkably good at staying on top of both his work and social obligations, though he actually finds his work easier to deal with. He’s deliberately arranged to be in between jobs while staying at the mansion, but as an accountant by profession, he finds his numbers and spreadsheets to be comforting constants in comparison to dealing with unpredictable people.

Unfortunately, the fact that he’s not at all good at dealing with people creates something of a conflict in him. Halcyon immerses himself in his number-crunching to avoid having to interact with others, but at times he finds himself craving company and has no idea who to reach out to. He hates to admit it, but to put it in simple terms… he’s lonely. His loneliness was a major driving factor behind his choice to join the masquerade, though not the only one.

Halcyon has always placed heavy emphasis on keeping up appearances, and though he knows quite well he’s gay (he’s often wished that he wasn’t), he’s also afraid of revealing that. For the sake of maintaining a front, mostly for his family, he’s often pretended to date women. His insecurity about his uality was the other reason that pushed him into signing up—he hopes that being able to stay masked will let him ease into it and be more himself rather than being constantly tense about anyone he knows finding out. Of course, if he gets serious enough that unmasking becomes a real possibility, he’ll have a whole new set of problems to deal with, but his desire for companionship means it’s a problem he’s carefully not thinking about at the moment.
OOC
+ Time zone: GMT +8. I keep odd hours fairly often though, so that's not very reliable.

+ I usually go for 3rd POV, but I can also do 1st POV if you prefer it.

+ Please don't believe the online sign. I never log out and while I check RPR on mobile sometimes, I only reply on PC.

+ I sometimes reply out of order, but don't worry, I won't ignore you on purpose!

+ If you ask to RP, I would appreciate it if you started, but it's not an iron-set rule; if it would make more sense for me to start from a plot standpoint I'm happy to.

+ No romance plots, please. If it happens, it happens. (Crushes are fine as long as you can accept the possibility that they may go nowhere.)

+ That said, without commitments is perfectly fine with me as far as my character allows.

+ I love plotting and I'm always up to RP, so don't be afraid to ask <3
