Would be's and would have's falling between fingers like strands of hair, cut so quick, severing death from one's head and letting it fall into the deep pit below. The pit of his would be future, snatched from him as quickly as he was snatched from his mother's side. Only a toddler, barely in school, thumb still in his mouth and eyes wide with wonder.
The remnants of a sister on the edges of his mind, soon beaten from him until he could only remember her smile. Don't feel. No remorse. Only take. Russia was a cold, cruel place, but he would rather the weather the storm than brew with the people inside. Learning how to be silent, only to be seen, not heard, like the priceless possessions he was told to steal.
