Hephaestus was a mess in the making and had falling far from the perfect utopia that was supposed to be olympus. Well, ‘fell’ makes it sound unintentional, when he knows full well what had happened. He was born with crippled feet and seemed almost too human to have a place on olympus among the other gods and goddesses, beautiful in their own right and all each a form of perfection incarnate. Hephaestus was tossed aside, deemed impure, seen as a bad omen, and demonized for his mangled feet that he hadn’t even learned to properly walk on. His mother, his sole creator--whether she saw it as incredibly shameful on her part or humiliating for herself--tossed him from the mountain side for his lameness, letting his form land in a heap far below them all.

Hephaestus was vengeful as he relived his misery in some of his human life times, but he wasn’t helpless: in his astral form he had all the tools he needed. The god was not the god of fire and creativity for nothing. He exacted his revenge on his mother in the only way revenge should be served, on a plate ice cold. On the surface, the golden throne he hand crafted for his mother seemed to be a gift to appease her, but it was the Trojan horse--charmed so that she couldn’t stand, he stood at the foot of Olympus and mocked her for her idiocy. Thinking he would come back and undo it, he was called back to Olympus by various gods: but Hephaestus only replied, “Mother who? I have no mother.”

In his time away, Hephaestus had time to establish himself and his craft it began with metal working. He worked for eons developing the different technologies and various mechanisms that work together today, allowing humans to fly up and into the heavens. Every new development by Hephaestus was gifted to the humans in their next big leap forward: as one would suspect, Hephaestus fashioned himself a chariot of sorts in that time that allowed him to remain mobile in his crippled state.

He is the only god known to leave mount Olympus and successfully return, although it was against his own will. His revenge was watered down when Dionysus was sent to intoxicate him, and Hephaestus was brought back to Olympus while inebriated out of his mind. Against his own will, he was back in the place he loathed because he was betrayed, but little did he know, his only enemy was his mother. No one else had anything to do with it but her, and he realizes that when his heart was taken by another.

Snatched from his cold grasp, Aphrodite stole his in a passionate downward spiral that grew into consummate love. Out of it bloomed a marriage between the two. Over the eons, yes, Hephaestus has had to recall the fact that the entity he fell in love with and loves so dearly is the epitome of love--she is the embodiment of love: a dynamic, flowing, all-encompassing warmth that can be as nuanced as it can be raging. He was angered at first, but he learned from his mistakes, and moved past them. Hephaestus has transcended the thoughts of her with other men to thinking about how happy she is, and how she feels when she falls in love.

His heart is worn on his sleeve and over the years, the vengeful fire has been smothered: with the shroud of hate pulled from over his eyes, one can see them burn bright with creativity and innovation like none other. He has passion for metal work, but he’s crafty with whatever materials he could be given: that is how he’s fashioned all the weapons the gods wield and all the armor that the gods wear; by working with them to manipulate their element or their own charms into the armor and weapons they call their own, he’s known for his otherworldly craft.
