For the longest time no one was really sure why Kim Taehyung had become a reaper. He was the definitely of happiness, a bubbly bursting mess of happiness and bad ideas ready to explode out into the world. Even as a reaper he was willing to explore, looking around the world and visiting places he had never been before. Certainly most treated the job of a reaper as a curse of sorts, but Taehyung always seemed to face reaperhood with bright eyes and a wide smile. No one understood why. And even when three hundred years had passed and everyone was certain that Taehyung's sentence must have been over still he persisted. Still, he stayed. Was it voluntary?

Yes and no.

Taehyung was here for a reason most certainly. His death itself was somewhat comedic, climbing a tree to save a kitten, the boy had taken a nasty fall and in his attempt to save the kitten managed to hit his head on on the way down. He had died quite fast, but in his defense at least the cat had survived. Loved by all, Taehyung should have easily passed onto the afterlife but when he had busy with the kitten, he had not been watching over his sister who his parents had instructed him specifically to watch over. Unknowing to him at first, because of his irresponsibility, she was killed by a bandit and Taehyung's parents then lamented the death of both their children (though they had many many more there on after). Only later did Taehyung realize that fact, and while the death of his sister was due to neglect, frankly it was Taehyung's own guilt that ever kept him from moving on forward because if he had been more careful and less scatterbrained, he would have spared his parents so much pain.

In the end it's Taehyung's choice to be here. Though he maintains a bright exterior there's a sadness and a guilt that will never leave him, a bitterness towards himself that only time can heal, though three hundred years later and the wound still feels as raw as if it was just made.
