Joohyun is akin to a summer rain, a quiet breath of fresh air that calms the world for a moment. She's the epitome of timid warmth, a gentle kindness that cannot be wavered even in tough situations. She loves cooking and caring for others, she's extremely passionate about animals, plants, gardening, laundry detergent and collecting sweaters. She's a little weak with humor and doesn't take sarcasm well, often misunderstanding what's really going on although she'll still smile even if it hurts her. She loves pastels and knitting, scrapbooking and watching ghibli movies - her favorite is The Secret World of Arrietty. She loves weather but is scared of thunder, she'll spend hours watching birds at her window and has a habit of biting her lip when she's thinking. She is awkward with compliments and affection, though she loves it all the same. She's an avid fan of starwars, all her plants are named after the characters, and she knows plenty of nerdy info on most comic or novel based films. Outside her life as the warlock of fifth avenue, she's very much a introvert despite her occasional parties and gatherings. A nerdy hippy who makes DIY firefly jars and has a replica light sabre on her bedroom wall. Joohyun is an old soul in a young body, a woman carrying memories and wise words, just trying to better the world despite the judgment.

Tell me, did you sail across the sun? ⌘
Bae Joohyun, born somewhere during the 1600's to a young mother living in the slums of Paris, Joohyun was born with the name Irene, the sole child of the unwed woman and the unreliable tavern owner, Charles Bae. It wasn't apparent that she was special on first glance, most mistook her strange hazy lilac gaze as simple genetics, and her mother gave it no concern.
By ten years old, Joohyun's glaring potential began to surface; when the other children saught out games and toys, Joohyun could be found nose deep in the books her mother had acquired from the inn she worked at. An insatiable thirst for knowledge, the child quickly found an affinity for the stars, the fascinating and wonderful world of astronomy. It was those early days, the ones of quiet nights spent by the hearth with her darling mother that Joohyun would reflect on; the days before the world fell out from under her.
The night had been long, it'd been cold and miserable but she'd never imagined how much worse it could get. She could never tear that image from her mind, that horrendous visual of her mother staggering through the door, apron doused in blood, clutching at a knife wound. Amidst the panic, the fear, the tingle swept beneath her fingers as she steadied her wounded mother to the bed, and what should've been her dying moments resulted in the discovery of the true purpose Joohyun had. Like a fine, purple shimmer swirling around delicate hands, the power within her coiled around the wound, and like an invisible line of stitches, the skin was healed and her mother was saved - but it came at a price, magic always came at a price.
With the realization came the fear, in the days of old Joohyun wasn't seen as a gift but a threat, even to her mother. Forced to flee, the young woman found herself keen in the ways of manipulation. A pretty face, a nice dress and the faint swirl of magic could win her nearly anything she wanted. That power was abused, but never taken for granted. The girl known as Irene became nothing more then a series of lies; no one knew her age, her skill, where she came from, or even her true name. She was a cloud of mystery, and to keep such a secret, that was exactly what she needed.
The guise lasted almost two hundred years, never faltering, never slipping - that was, until she met him. 1872, summer in London, the flawless being that was born with the same unknown gene as she, only he was dubbed a blood thirsty beast. A vampire, as they'd become known. Their connection was instantaneous, and before long the secrets Joohyun had kept hidden bled from her, falling upon understanding ears; something she'd never experienced.
Set to marry, the downworlder pair had settled in a lofty plantation in New Orleans, and for once Joohyun thought she'd find a purpose, a life to live among people who couldn't accept nor understand her. But the perfection was bound for disaster, anf disaster was what she found. The word had gotten out of the immortals, the beast and the witch, the threat in the city. Armed and scared, the towns folk burned their land, the crops of lilac flowers set ablaze, soon reaching the sanctity of their home. Even with her skill in bending flame, and summoning it, Joohyun couldn't tame the wild blaze that had surrounded her home. And in the dead of night, cast in the burning glow, Joohyun watched her future burn and, despite her attempts, never found her fiancé.
Countless years, dozens of stories, a life spent running, lying, hiding and desperately trying to forget, "Irene" changed her name to Joohyun, the proper name her mother wanted, and found herself easily accustomed to life in the bustling streets of New York. With enough time to spare, and repressing the magic that she'd relied on for so many years, Joohyun went through school and graduated with a degree in astrophysics. The study of stars, of space; the girl lost in the glow of stardust settled for a life of quiet mundane habits, teaching classes every now and then and hosting downworlder parties in her loft. Despite her introverted nature, the company promises safety, and reminds her that she isn't truely alone.”
