Allison Lee was born February 26th, in a small town of Illinois where she was born and raised until the age of 14. As a young girls she would prance around her house and put on mini "concerts" for her family. She grew up admiring women icons like Beyoncé, Selena, TLC, Whitney Houston ect.. She fell in love with the way they performed and how they knew to captivate a crowd. With RnB influences, it was inevitable for Allison to get into rap music. It was a strictly male dominant genre that it's rare for a woman to stand out in. The challenge is what made her love the idea of one day standing on a stage with millions singing her songs. Of course everyone around her thought differently because what are the odds of a puny little Asian girl from the countryside of Illinois making it big? But nonetheless, her parents would allow her to go to music camps and participate in musical activities with the school just to make their little girl happy.
Fast forward a couple of years later. Tragedy struck her family when her grandmother fell ill. Her parents made a life changing decision to pack up their bags and move back to Korea. This would flip Allisons world upside down. Of course she's been to Korea and knew how to speak her mother tongue, but she's never stayed longer than a month at a time. Now she's going to be living there. Having to fit in to a different culture was hard for her. She would have to always correct her manners and need help pronouncing her words. She felt like an outcast, someone who shouldn't be there. And because of it Allison started to feel more and more depressed. Just to wake up took so much energy out of her. She did end up making a few friends by chance who ultimately got her into the kpop scene. Allison wasn't living under a rock she knew what kpop was, she just never bothered to listen to it or Korean music in general. This was something new and different- and Allison loved it. It didn't take long for her to fall into the endless pit of girl groups and boy groups.
"I'm going to be a kpop star and my music will be heard." That's what her initial thought was. Boy if she only knew then what she knows now. She passed her auditions with Sapphire entertainment with ease at age 16. They loved the confidence and raw talent that she brought, however it was her lack of effort that would be her flaw. She hated training. She hated the vocal and dance practices. Depression would consume her being for a long period of time, she had no friends or family. She was alone in Seoul while her family was in Busan moving on without her, it felt like. It was stay like that for a year or so before she got to see a Sapphire family's concert in person. The trainees were gathered around admiring their sunbaes with stars in their eyes. That could be them someday. That night was an eye opener because Allison was determined to make that "could be" a "will be". She started practicing harder, interacting with other trainees and overall just making more efforts for her dream. She'll make her parents proud one day and she'll achieve her dreams no matter what.
