Brief background: his family is what Ibsen would call a dolls house; seemingly fine on the outside but crumbling on the inside. His mother had married Chanyeols father for money in the first place. She is manipulative and constantly threatens for a divorce if she doesn’t get what she wants. And in his conservative family, it’s a thing chanyeols father cannot accept. He often overhears their arguments but he knows he cannot intervene. His father was too depressed anyways to really fight back and Chanyeol didn’t want to get into it, especially because the mother is abusive towards him and his siblings (open for plots ayee). Despite all of this at home, Chanyeol is very active in school, his family thinks it’s to uphold their status but in reality it’s to get away from all the hell at home. Everything has made Chanyeol build a strong shell. So he may seem like a careless piece of but he’s trying his best on the inside.
