Yoongi grew up in a fairly strict household. Him and his older brother weren't kept under lock and key, no cinderella nonsense, though teenage yoongi sure as hell felt that way. His parents were pretty kind, but yoongi felt as though he didn't have the freedom he wanted, so he started rebelling, around 16. his grades stayed stellar, he was still on student council, he still played basketball, but his out-of-school activities were less that perfect. getting high and wandering town with friends, ing around with anyone he wanted (safely, he'd add. he's ty but he isn't stupid.) Okay, well, it wasn't like he just out of the blue got all rebellious. his parents were lovely, lovely people, to outsiders, to his brother, to yoongi. To yoongi before he was outed to them, that is. Yoongi had a best friend. a boy, someone who he told everything, someone who he trusted with everything--even his first kiss, at thirteen. sure, they sort of knew what they were doing, they weren't that clueless, but they never thought to how much it would change their worlds. something told them they should keep it a secret. in front of their parents they were as usual, playing games, roughousing. but when they were alone, games switched for moviees, roughousing with soft kisses. if yoongi were to look back on it, he might even call the boy his first boyfriend. it was all too good to be true. 

One night, when they were sixteen, things got a little more..risque. it was nothing too major, no, but it was enough for the boy's parents to get mad. real mad. when the boy's mother opened the door to yoongi on his lap, shirt somewhere on the floor, she was livid. said some words yoongi would like to forget. She told his parents, but the fallout there is nothing more than a repressed memory at this point. after that, they practically avoided him like the plague, and his older brother was off to college. Yoongi had no one at home. He couldn't even go see his best friend of thirteen years, because his parents were convinced that 'that min boy sodomized their son.' so yeah, he started acting out, sue him. He graduated with flying colours, but he didn't know what he wanted to do with his life yet. he figured, well, his parents were already disappointed in him, why not disappoint them more?

 

he took a few gap years. three, to be exact. he knew he wasn't going to be doing much of anything productive if he went straight into college, so he didn't. apparently, that was the last straw for his parents. they kicked him out, which honestly, he had expected. he couch surfed, from friend to friend, until he'd ended up with a long-term boyfriend. he'd known yoongi in highschool, knew him through all of his struggles, and let yoongi stay with him. little 19 year old yoongi was more than grateful, even if he did feel guilty. he'd worked a bunch of odd jobs, just doing whatever he could to make money, seeing as he wouldn't have a place to stay over college the summers if he didn't. he'd managed to land himself some serious connections, as his "delinquent" friends had some not-so-legal ties. instead of hacing to pay for a place, he sort of just..got one. after doing some favours, of course, but still--it was free. even so, now at 21, he still wanted to go to college. it was always his goal. he wanted to show his parents, his brother who he hadn't talked to in years, his best friend's parents, that he was going to be successful, even against the odds they'd given him. since going to college, yoongi's embraced his femininity--it's not unlikely to see him flaunting a skirt, a bombass pair of heels. gendered clothing is a myth, kids.  he's just become more of himself. he'd never seen himself as one to be a fratboy, but somehow he found himself as a nu gamma tau pledge. happens.

yoongi's always trying to make someone smile. Sure, he may be a little awkward about it, might do it in some odd, roundabout way, but he tries. yoongi lovess attention. like. craves it. like sure, humans need attention, but yoongi absolutely thrives on it. same with affection. he's matured out of his "any attention is good attention" ways, sort of.  sort of, because party yoongi is a whole other story. he's the epitome of party animal. yoongi's fairly good at balancing his academic life and party life--has to be, he's academic full ride--so he's pretty studious when he needs to be. 

 

yoongi may look very quiet, very docile, but that really isn't the case. sure, he might be a little quiet at first, but he's very adamant on letting you know how he feels on something, especially if it's something he's passionate about. Yoongi can be very hardheaded, very stubborn, but will eventually come around. sometimes. he's honestly a little intimidating, which is prretty amusing, seeing as he's some short guy with perpetually pink cheeks and a 90% pastel wardrobe. he's an unapologetic . why should he be sorry for having fun, especially if he's doing it safely? he's surprisingly soft most of the time.
