she was born to the southern water tribe, her father the chief of said tribe. growing up, she was the only water bender of the south pole. she lived a happy life with her brother, sokka, and the other kids of the tribe.

everything was fine, until she lost her mother to the fire nation. it was just any average day: the sun was shining, and her and her brother were having a snowball fight. and then all of a sudden, it all changed. the fire nation raided their tribe, the commander yon rha searching for the water bender of the tribe. determined to protect her daughter, kya lied and gave herself up as the water bender. katara was only eight years old.

soon after, he father went off to fight the war against the fire nation, and her and her brother was left to be raised by her grandmother.

if anything, it was much more like she was taking on the role as her mother. after her mother's death, she felt hurt, alone, betrayed. her father soon passed away, and she was left with an empty hole in her heart. so instead, she became the motherlike caretaker. she was seen as so even by her brother, though he never failed to remind her that they were siblings.

it wasnt soon after that she and her brother discovered aang, who had been frozen solid in a block of ice for a hundred years. with her help (and invariably her brother's, too) aang was able to master the elements to bring down the fire nation.

but not before she met prince zuko. for years, they had grown to be enemies, him being the "crowned prince of the fire nation" or something like that. he constantly sought to capture aang, and even going so far as to betray her trust time and time again. but in the end, she learned to trust him,to even go so far as forgiving him.

she was thrown into this world without much of a warning, and yet there's something that holds her back from searching for a way home. what if everyone else is gone, too? what would happen to her life here? what if people are here, and she's not as alone as she feels? she wonders all of these questions, and yet day by day she knows that she's beginning to forget the simplest of things. she's trying to hold onto a home that she knows she will never find a way back to, and she feels totally alone in that plight.
