The Wongs hadn’t always been rich. Quite the rags to riches story, “Charles” Wong had been born in a poor southern Chinese province and eventually immigrated to the United States as a migrant worker. In the States, he worked diligently with his uncle until finding an American benefactor. With the help of his benefactor, Charles Wong completed his education at Duke University and Vanderbilt University. After completing his education, he returned to China as a missionary. His life as a preacher was short-lived when he began a printing business, which eventually amassed enough wealth to fund the political revolution that overthrew the Qing Dynasty.

Charles Wong’s daughters and sons gained prominence in the Republic of China. When the Chinese Communist Party began to come into power, Charles Wong’s children escaped to Taiwan and the United States. In their new respective countries, they continued to be influential in politics and banking.

Today, the Wongs continue to maintain their wealth and prestige. Yukhei’s father, having followed family tradition, is a prominent investment banker while his mother is a well known socialite and philanthropist.

Being an only child, he was never short on love from either of his parents. They ensured that he was always happy and healthy. since he had everything he desired, his mother, being the philanthropist she was, always made it a point that others' lives weren’t like his. Not only did she tell him, but she made him see it. She would take him to volunteer in soup kitchens, food banks, and homeless shelters.

Due to his financial security, his family always encouraged him to pursue what he loved and while he wanted to continue following tradition and major in finance, he ultimately picked pre-veterinary medicine.

As the President of Sigma Epsilon and a member of multiple student organizations, Wong Yukhei is a prominent member in the Ikigai community.

He’s a kind, caring soul. He’s very passionate about everything he does. He genuinely wants the best for fraternity members and classmates. The concept of family is very important to him.

While he tries to be warmhearted, his upbringing can lead him to be a bit entitled and believe that he is always right. This perception can lead him to be quite blunt and insensitive in his responses. Though he is quite a defensive character, he will eventually realize the error of his ways and attempt to apologize with gifts or other gestures because he finds saying sorry quite difficult.
