In his celestial life, Park Hyungsik was known as Samael, one of the seven archangels, him being associated with death. Despite his associations with evil, Samael is said to still be close with God, even ruling over Fifth Heaven. He was a husband and lover of Lilith’s, who bore many of his evil sons. Samael is most famously spoken of in regards to the story of God ordering Abraham to murder Isaac, his son. Samael attempted to persuade Abraham not to kill his son for the sole purpose of disobeying God’s command. Even though choosing not to kill his own son was the morally good decision to make, Samael did not urge Abraham in that direction because it was morally good. Instead, his goal was to spite God. After Abraham did not listen to Samael’s persuasions, the archangel went to Sarah, Abraham’s wife, and told her that Abraham had killed Isaac; Sarah died upon hearing the false news.

On earth, Park Hyungsik roams Belgate with the hopes of turning humans to their desires and impulsive actions. He is quirky in some ways, though. Although he is an archangel of death and leans towards morally bad decisions, there are times where he decides that a human must not be swayed in the worse direction. There are also times where he believes humans do not deserve the punishments they are prescribed – enter Mazikeen.

The two demons found companionship on earth and are a tag team of torturers. However, Samael’s tendencies to calculate a human’s level of deserving punishment get in the way at times. His sympathies towards humans have only grown since coming to earth, to which Mazikeen always rolls his eyes. Undoubtedly, the two are an interesting pair.
