HISTORY.

mark’s father was a known cardiothoracic surgeon. all of his operations happened with consistent success. people come to him for help; they knew that he would save their dying family member. he was a charismatic man: professional, intelligent, confident, and bold. women loved him, but he fell in love with a woman who happened to be born with riches. he knew that she was the one for him, and she knew that as well.

mark’s father expected a baby boy. he wished for a child who he can build and who can he trust. his wife followed his demand, but their first attempt ended up being a girl. he wasn’t happy with the idea. though, she is still his child, and he can’t determine fate. later that year, they tried again. with immediate success, his wife birthed a beautiful boy: long eyelashes and pretty eyes with a cute giggle. from the first look, he knew that his son, mark tuan, would become his number one. however, mark tuan didn’t know what was coming.

he grew up to live like the rich. he resided inside a mansion, he rode inside high-class branded cars, he wore top brands only. people would call his life as lucky, but he didn’t think so. at the age of five, his father forced him to study. he was paying for a charter school and he expected mark to succeed. every day, mark slugged through endless of books. when he was in third grade, he had to finish high-school level books every week. he spent all of his time at the library with his personal assistant; under surveillance by his dad. mark started to get tired of studying.

when mark was in middle school, he wanted a bike for his birthday. he begged his dad to let him have one so he can play with his friends, but his dad refused. mark then asked his mother, and she only responded with “ask your father.” the next day, his father gave him a gift. he was happy for a brief moment—only to find out that it was a piano for him to practice on. mark knew his childhood was gone.

perfect mark started to break down. he became afraid of his father. he knew if he didn’t live up to his father’s expectations, bad consequences will happen to him. the moments where his father hit him for every wrong mark on his report card became frequent. he was stressing about every test; hoping to forge every A to an A+. he tried his best to work diligently as his father’s intern as well; perfecting every task that his father asked him to do.

at the start of high school, he didn’t want to be his father’s perfection anymore. he still followed his father’s orders. he joined mock trial, took every community service opportunity, and did any classes that were to his liking. his father attended every student-teacher conference to avoid any rebellion from mark. somehow, mark managed to join the volleyball team despite his father’s wishes. his father eventually found out about mark’s wrong doing. mark stopped coming to school for a week.

his rebellious state increases as his beatings becomes frequent. mark begins to take it like a champ. even if he doesn’t break free from his father, he knows that he at least got the bike that he wanted in middle school.

PERSONALITY.

mark tuan is supposed to be your top ten student who is studious and intelligent. he is supposed to be the one to tutor you at library, the one to help you when you fall down, and the one to ace any test that he comes across, but is he any of these? well, not quite.

say hello to your resident idiot at royal high, the one and only mark tuan. everyone knows who he is: a considerable class clown who makes a fool of himself everyday during class, but somehow, girls adore over him as if he is from a manhwa. impulsiveness is spread across his forehead: his actions sprawling from hysterical laughter during exam periods to posting a picture of himself drinking (this happens a bit too frequently). moreso, he talks a tad too much for anyone’s liking. a person who most likely never shuts up when you ask him to, and of course, the one to come up with terrible ideas that nobody follows. he’s deemed to be useless in group projects but he still gets the free A regardless.

despite his bright persona, he can get emotional when things get too heated for him. unfortunately, he is the one to cry his problems away, but he can’t show that to others as it is something that will ruin his image. he becomes self-conscious; making sure that he doesn’t become something that his father dislikes. he constantly drains himself out, sometimes having random tantrums when he does it too frequently, but he perfectly masks his negativities with his school image.
