Description
to cut quite a long story short, wooseok has been alive for a long time. most witches don't live to be his age, and should they somehow survive the perils of the war, most of them choose to retire from all this ceaseless fighting. some of them choose to become a priest or a priestess, or they choose to stay away from the front lines, or they choose to hide out in a discreet area far away from all this massacre.
but for wooseok, retirement had never been an option. no, he'd started his life on the battlefield, and he would end it there.
he'd been born on the battlefield in the most literal sense — his mother had given birth to a healthy baby boy in the medic tents in the midst of a siege against a small town on vlatkan lands. why the auryleans chose to invade that particular town on the day of wooseok's birth, he'd never know. although the population of his town of birth increased by one, the number of lives lost greatly outweighed the number of lives gained. the siege on their town resulted in a massacre, killing both wooseok's mother and father before the infant even had the chance to open his eyes. by some miracle, the baby survived — along with a very young midwife that had decided to take him in as her own. her name was yve vlatka.
by no means was his childhood easy — the two of them were orphans of the war, like many others. there was too much suffering, too much bloodshed for anyone to pay attention to two children that wandered, begging for scraps of food. it must have been incredibly difficult for a young nine year old girl to provide for an infant, but somehow, yve did it for him. the young witch raised wooseok, and they grew up together as siblings, their bond reinforced by the harsh realities of surviving on their own in the midst of a ceaseless massacre.
it was when wooseok was 12 that he learned of exactly how yve had managed to feed both herself and the young boy she considered as her brother. ion was, and is the oldest job in the world, and the young girl had wanted to keep wooseok pure and innocent. a light in the darkness that consumed her life.
