Description
Success was a concept that had been involuntarily embeded in her brain since before birth. As the first and only child to a wealthy entrepreneur, Lalisa Panpriya Manoban only ever had one goal in life: to be the best person she can be—in both her eyes and her father’s. As a child, she had only known training, the money her parents harbored enabling her to dip into every single extracurricular activity a young child could manage. Since she had learned to walk on her little legs, the girl had slipped on ballet slippers, learned rhythm with tap shoes, spoken a dozen different languages, and broken a limb at least twice with whatever sport she was indulged in at the time. Of course, each class or private tutor was at the top of their profession, her father insisting on hiring the best for his little princess.
And because he hired the best, Kriangkrai Manoban expected nothing BUT the best from his little girl. In his eyes, proficient is below average, and passing would be considered close to failure. For years on end, this little girl had disappointed her father far too many times for a child to bear, ultimately becoming accustomed to the idea that she may never earn satisfaction from her paternal figure, whose name just so happens to mean “Victory”. So “good enough” was then associated with blatant failure. Thus came a new word to be ingrained into her young brain, striving for transcendent virtuosity.
But with the idea of perfection comes the taxing element of the incessant and pestilential need of consistent excellence. Anything “good” is subpar; anything great is just shy of her goal. And just shy means exactly as it sounds: she can do far better than that. “Almost is never enough” is one of the mantras that drives her towards that goal, despite friends encouraging the reality that perfection is not always the ideal endgame. Rather, doing just enough can be just as effective as doing more.
At twenty-two years old, the word has become a disease for her, a sort of cancerous plight that takes root in every single cell of her body. It controls her very being, thus restricting her of free will that would otherwise result in her freedom from such high expectations. The word itself is a puppetmaster at best, because every single action made is bound to be evaluated a thousand times over so that it would have no fault whatsoever.
Ironically enough, this could perhaps be her biggest flaw. As rational as she perceives (and wishes) herself to be, this characteristic overrides all contemplation and in turn, makes her idealistic at best. At this point, it is quite difficult to determine whether or not this is a result of her family’s expectations or her own, however, her own careful deliberation over every single project, assignment, or activity has brought people to think that the harsh criticism is all self-inflicted; be it intentional or not. Either way, as incapacitating as it sounds, the female has found herself attending one of the most prestigious law schools while working for perhaps the most commendable law firm in the country. And for the first time, her father had given her a smile of approval. Perhaps being a perfectionist has its perks after all.
Perhaps. it, by chance, may also be the result of her ultimate demise, because the aspiration towards perfection requires the sacrifice of doing absolutely everything she can to succeed. Even if such would include less than legal things that would cost her the commendable opportunity of earning a license to practice.
charismatic, intuitive, versatile, disciplined, and compassionate are perhaps the best adjectives to describe this powerhouse of a female. her drive could most arguably be her most defined characteristic, as she is the girl who knows what she wants, and gets what she wants—when she wants it. call it spoiled, however, she prefers to view it as the necessary and important traits for success. a woman will never be able to overcome the glass ceiling with an indecisive attitude.
though quite the charmer, the female prefers to surround herself with close friends, thus valuing quality over quantity (despite her endless amount of connections). she generally does not have time for the company of mere acquaintances, instead opting for loyal camaraderie whom she shares mutual love and respect with. however, she tends to be quite the social butterfly, as her aura radiates complete confidence with each smile and every step she takes.
father: kriangkrai manoban (NPC). well known for being the founder and ceo of victory resorts, a successful hotel / resort chain that started in bangkok, thailand, and further branched out to other countries (comparable to hilton). he divorced her biological mother when she was very young, so she barely remembers her, if at all. not long after, he remarried a woman that she had grown fond of very quickly.
brother: jaehyun jung. step-brother. not only did her father's marriage give her a mother figure to look up to, she earned a brother that she had learned to adore with all her heart.
cousin: davika hoorne. biological relative. the closest thing she could have to a sister in her family, the two have been best friends since birth. though she isn't necessarily fond of the members of her family, davika is one of the few exceptions.
sister: chaeyoung park. not biological. a friend of hers since diapers, this girl had been a prominent part of her life, having gone to school together for the entirety of their lives. have been with each other through thick and thin, held one another through troubling times, and stuck together even through the petty little highschool days when they would fight over the smallest of things. even after two long decades, lisa still holds so much love for her.
brother: jongin kim. not biological. met by chance in highschool, the two have become inseparable since then. their personalities are far too similar that is is uncanny, and she wonders if they were twins in a past life (or perhaps, clones). whatever it is, the two share frustrations and complications, dealing with obstacles similarly, if not exactly the same. in turn, these two are quite the partners in crime (rather, against crime), and are known to be the dynamic duo that could overcome just about anything together.
SHE HAS AN ENDLESS AMOUNT OF CONNECTIONS, BUT HERE ARE SOME NOTABLE FIGURES IN HER LIFE:
byulyi moon: her boss. she was lucky enough to land an internship with one of the best firms in the country. however, she argues that working with prosecutor moon herself is the biggest honor.
ten leechaiyakul: childhood (best) friend. visiting thailand every so often wasn't so bad once she met this guy. her father has many friends, but she never clicked with any of their children as much as she did with ten.
joohyuk nam: childhood friend. they grew up together as part of an inseparable trio. to be continued...
bambam bhuwakul: old flame. to be continued...
both biological parental figures are of thai blood. she however, was rooted in australia, having grown up in the affluent city of sydney. she only ever visits thailand to visit relatives or to accompany her dad on business trips.
tea, her cats, dancing, working out, savory food, sweet food, electronics, gaming (esp. lol), her apartment interior design, makeup, skincare, avocados, her friends.
school, work, textbooks, overly chatty people, bitter things (like coffee & bittermelon), flakes, the majority of her family (esp. her dad), extremely hot weather.
dancing, kickboxing, swimming, binge watching movies & tv shows, working out, cooking.
earning her law degree, success in her career (becoming the best in her field), build a shelter for the homeless, settling down, settle with a husband & kids, find true & unwavering happiness.
speaks english with an australian accent, polylingual (english, thai, asl, korean, french), perfectionist, kind of a neat freak.
irrevocable adoration. a love so pure, yet so incredibly difficult to describe with words of the mundane. for my love for you is far greater than a simple expression; far greater than what i can ever show you in this life. though i can try my best, try to see to it that you can be able to experience at least a portion of that explanation. because you deserve it. you deserve the world. you deserve the universe. my angel. my light. my sun and stars. my universe. you have my heart, baby, and i don't think anyone in the universe has ever loved someone as much as i loved you. i love you. so very much.
i exclusively do third pov no matter the length. i prefer semi-para to para. i used to do multi-para but i don't really like taking 2 weeks just to finish a dinner. i want to see things moving quickly. keep it on the shorter side so we can actually make progress with our connection. don't poke me, please.
