trust. what is life without trust? it lays within the world's deepest treasures, naturally pumping through the veins of what would be called humankind. it comes from the first touch after birth; everlasting. trust is indispensable, yet it can be damaging. without trusting others, we cannot function in society, or even stay alive for very long, but being overly-trustful can also be a bad strategy. trust is pragmatic, but it also has a moral dimension: trustworthiness is a virtue, and well-placed trust benefits us all. why do we value trust? why do we want to be trusted? trust is important both in the personal and public spheres, including in family and relationships as well as politics and society......but what happens when that trust is shattered? what happens when the people that you love the most - that you trust the most - betray trust upon themselves, each other, and even....you?
taemin's life had always been one of magic. he'd always treasured his family as his number one; he loved his parents, he loved his younger brother. everything - no, everyone - seemed invincible. his parents had stable jobs (which came with a good income), and were always supportive of his and his brother's aspirations. how could anything go wrong? that question would soon be answered within that of a series of unfortunate events. perhaps the first time he'd caught his mother - the person to which he'd looked up to the most - within an act that he'd only (then) believed was one to occur between two people in love; was simply a warning. but there was that trust again, tickling his belly amidst the pain. he had to be optimistic. it was just a mistake. but that mistake became a second, a third -- it'd come to a point where he'd crack, tell his father. that moment, too, was the moment where he became a best friend to his parents. not a son.
his belief in trust was low already, yet, seemingly diminished when his mother got caught for messing with their taxes - ultimately leading to a criminal investigation. that was the rut of it. his mother last his job, his father lost his job, they even lost their hourse. after what seemed to be a lifetime staying in that of his grandmother's attic, four bodies occupying a room for none, taemin had enough. he packed his bags with trempling hands, intaking sharp inhales as the tears stained his face a bright gleam. the pain was apparent as his life was packed into that of a suitcase, arms encompassing the smaller figure of his younger brother - because he wouldn't dare allow him to live a life like so.
so out they went, in search of a better life; a better world.
