changmin was born to a fisherman as his father and a e as his mother. the marriage, to changmin's knowledge, had always been very rocky due to his father's decreasing salary and his mother's frustration with his father's benevolent nature and continuing to give away money to those who needed it--and some who tricked his father. nonetheless, changmin idolized his father due to his moral compass. however at the time of the divorce when he was ten, his parents had him choose who to live with as his mother was going to move to the city for a higher salary and for changmin to attend a good school. however, changmin chose to stay with his father as he acknowledged while his mother would forget the sea and move on, his father would remain alone and grow old; therefore, changmin took care of his father until his untimely death when thieves stole his father's boat and killed him on the shore.
with the shores of his hometown now under the siege of bandits, changmin changed from being an aspiring fisherman to bringing justice for those who killed his father. he moved to the city to pursue certification in the law enforcement academy after finishing high school, and he was recognized for his persistence of his duties. he earned fairly high marks considering his low education level, and due to his promise, changmin was partered with an experienced partner both eager for justice like himself and benevolent like his father.
as a police officer, changmin wants to keep the streets safe and vowed to give his life in the pursuit of justice. however, the high crime rate among the citizens in his previous area, their ungratefulness, and the many criminals who bribed their way out of punishment eroded his sense of justice and he began to accept bribes, telling himself that he was still keeping the peace in the city. however, when he failed to properly arrest the same man who bribed him because he feared he would be discovered as a corrupt cop, changmin had to see his partner in the police being fatally shot to save him. due to the traumatic experience, he suffers from ptsd and finds difficulty picking himself up to accomplish everyday tasks from his guilt.
