“Is there a reason why my father doesn’t want to see me?” She pleaded. Kim Doyeon wasn’t oblivious, nor ignorant. She knew who her father was but then again, children were meant to be seen not heard as her own flesh and blood of a mother would say. Seeing the carefree smile of a man on the television set that left nothing but an envelope with cash through the mail each month left her mother feeling scorned. And hell hath no fury on a woman scorned. It was enough to cover the necessities. It was enough to make them feel a little more than comfortable. But it wasn’t enough to replace the warmth of a two parent household. It wasn’t enough to buy silence. By the end of her middle school career, Doyeon’s mother blackmailed the man she desperately clinged onto for the love of their child, the love for their unwanted child. If the cries weren’t enough, Doyeon would always remember the repulsive threats her father would throw at the other side of the phone line.
On that day, the girl swore to herself that she wouldn’t have to rely on the love of a man to decide her future. Remaining hushed and compensated for not telling a soul of the matter, Doyeon used the money for selfish desires that would lead to a spiral of bad decisions and spontaneous behavior in high school. From timid and meek to a loud mouth woman that let her presence be known as she entered the classroom. It wasn’t easy for her to hold her tongue if something annoyed her. The wandering eyes of a man left a sour taste in , deciding firmly that she should focus on her career. Now, studying special education in her second year at Solace University, Doyeon hopes to accomplish her goal of graduating with a degree to give a chance to children with special needs that society seems to undermine.
