Born to a secret keeper and a forager Hyuna got a well rounded education throughout her childhood. She learnt both to fear and to love the sea as well as the land.
Her father brought her to land when she was sixteen. He taught her to walk on her human legs and to keep a set of human clothing safe at a location where she could safely transform without being seen.
Her land visits were never more than three hours and she always kept close to her father. Observing how he interacted and learning about the world above.
Her mother was a secret keeper. She trained Hyuna in the ways of the secret keepers so that one day she could take over her mothers position and protect the sacred secrets they keep hidden in the deepest caverns of Crystal Cove.
Her life was peaceful. She had a loving family. Her mother, father and younger brother brought her a world of joy.
Nothing could have prepared her for when that world ended.
Pirates! They came for the secrets. They captured Hyuna's parents. Hyuna had been out swimming with dolphins so when she came home and found they were gone she was beside herself with grief.
Her only comfort was in knowing her little brother was safe, as he too had been out when the pirates attacked.
Now Hyuna is a secret keeper. She looks out for her little brother and she does her job keeping the sacred secrets safe. But her smile disappeared the day her parents were lost to them.
Can someone one day bring back that sparkle in her eyes? That genuine cheerful smile?
