coming from a long line of engineers and other technical workers, chanyeol's career path was pretty much set in stone from the beginning. as a child, he attended a small prestigious private school in the city which boasted having the best STEM programs for the youth in the country. having the best of the best is never always the best; the all work-no play approach his parents had was physically and emotionally taxing. he was never able to find true passion between all the complicated math equations thrown at him on a daily basis. in comparison, all the other kids in his class seemed to do fine with the material and weren't unhappy with it, leaving him feeling alienated from the rest. chanyeol started falling behind as a result which only made things worse - his parents felt he needed more time studying and even less free time. as more study material was shoved in his face, he fell even further behind and started to become more and more withdrawn. eventually, he ended up getting himself kicked out of school and sent to a public school at the age of 14 for not meeting the criteria. to say his parents were upset would he an understatement; they were livid once they realized he could never live up to their expectations. this was only one event out of many which ensued problems between him and the rest of his family. he picked up on bad habits along the way, which included stress-smoking, skipping classes, and anything else he could do to make his parents furious. all these activities would be done alone, as chanyeol hadn't yet attempted to socialize in his new school either.
after years of isolation, it wouldn't be until chanyeol entered highschool where he finally decided to change himself for the better - and where he finally discovered his true passion. it wasn't until he put himself out there where he realized he wasn't alone; he was able to meet new people and confide in them, some in even similar situations as himself. for the first time, he felt understood and listened to. he was able to establish many meaningful friendships along the way in comparison to the majority of superficial relationships he had at his old private school. and with friends comes many things, good and bad - one of them is always having someone to confide in. chanyeol always presented himself as the most resilient and intuitive of the bunch, so his friends would often rely on him as emotional support. and chanyeol liked that - he enjoyed making others feel safe and as a person to confide in. he knew how badly it felt to not have anyone to rely on, and didn't wish the same for anyone else. his heart was finally set on a career path - psychology. which is why, after graduating, he wasted no time in moving out of his parents' house and cutting off all contact with them. freshly out of highschool and nowhere to go, he decided to room with a friend in the city while working a part-time job to pay for college and living expenses.

hello! first off, thanks for taking the time to read chanyeol's profile ♡ i'm currently a full-time student on my summer break, so I'll have alot more time to respond to threads and whatnot.
