Even from the start, it can be a challenge to get to know yongsun since she tends to be very private, even enigmatic. yongsun doesn't readily share her thoughts and feelings, not unless she's comfortable and since those thoughts and feelings are the basis for her bonds, it can take time and persistence to get to know her. As trust grows however, yongsun will share more of what lies beneath the surface. yongsun is soft–spoken, she has very strong opinions and will fight tirelessly for an idea she believes in. she isn't an idle dreamer, instead, a person capable of taking concrete steps to realize her goals and make a lasting impact, a trait she inherited from her mother.

She's decisive and strong–willed, but will rarely use that energy for personal gain – she acts with inquisitiveness, compassion and sensitivity not to create advantage, but to create balance. Egalitarianism and karma are very attractive ideas to yongsun. I. Haemokinesis (emitter type) — is considered to be an extremely rare quirk, as well as an illegal form of art to be utilized unless it's in battle. Yongsun's quirk allows her to manipulate blood under several different circumstances: whether it's from herself, others or even from free–flowing sources. Unlike the majority of blood manipulators, Yongsun is among a select few who is able to use her quirk effectively in both long and close range combat.

II. aquakinesis (sub quirk) — it's naturally integrated into her Haemokinetic abilities but she doesn't utilize any water bending. However, if you possess an aquakinetic quirk, don't hesitate to ask her for guidance.

I. Blood property manipulation: She can manipulate certain properties of blood. She can do so by either touching her target or from a distance. Yongsun is capable of changing her own blood properties, the properties of others blood, or do both depending on how she intends to execute it. Her applications with regards to the technique are as follows:
    I. Pyrokinetic Blood (flammable)
    II. Viperous Blood (poisonous)
    III. Corrosive Blood (acidic)

II. Blood Clotting: a regenerative healing attribute wherein Yongsun has the power to stop herself or others from bleeding. However, this is not applicable to stop large scale bleeding – the maximum she can manage is a total of seven people at a time.

III. Blood generation: Yongsun can generate blood whether it be by drawing it from already existing blood source (hers, others or separate from the bodies), or by manifesting it from anywhere she see's fit.

IV. Neurocognitive Deficit: She can cause the target's upper brain functions to shut down temporarily, causing unconsciousness. It is considered more defensive than offensive.

V. Haemokinetic Constructs: Yongsun can materialize her blood into tools, objects, weapons etc. She has mastered this ability and can use it for almost any situation, creating anything she needs depending on the circumstance. Yongsun's main applications are as follows:

— Restraints (offensive + defensive): She is able to bind, imprison, paralyze and/or otherwise stop targets from moving and can possibly immobilize them completely. This can be achieved using various means including energy–based, physical restrains or mental effects.

— Appendages (offensive + defensive): Yongsun has the ability to generate extra body parts with her most signature appendages being a pair of wings that can shoot crystalized blood projectiles/serve as a sheild, and several tails materialized out of blood that serve as whips.

— Barriers (defensive): Yongsun can generate shields and shield–like objects out of blood to defend herself from any direct attacks.

— Weapons (offensive): Yongsun can shape her blood into virtually any weapon she wants and can create however as many she wishes. She has a variety of weapons she chooses from depending on the range of combat she has to battle with.

— Projectiles (offensive): Yongsun can generate projectiles which can harbor certain properties depending on how she constructs them. Generally utilized for long range combat.

VI. physical enhancements: She can get an immediate bursts of enhancement in strength, speed, and stamina, by adjusting the flow of her blood.

VII. Necrogenesis (forbidden arts): She can kill anyone and possibly even anything using varying means, either instantly, slowly over time after certain conditions are met or after a certain period of time. This can only be executed via touching the target and once expended, cannot be used until after a period of seven months.

chapter I • genesis

daughter of the blood moon

Yongsun's birth had been foretold by an oracle who claimed the seventh child to grace the shibotabana family would be the prophecied child long awaited not only by her ancestors before her, but also by the current lineage of blood manipulators who ruled and oversaw the shibitobana clan. Yongsun was the youngest child born into the most notorious and old lineage of blood benders known to the world of heroes, and she was also the sole female between seven elder brothers. She was conceived during the revered night of a blood moon, and the day of her birth brought about the same phenomena which served as enough evidence to prove that even the heavens would write it upon their constellations to bestow it's divine blessings in time for her birth.

Between her brothers, Yongsun was the only child to inherit and show any immediate signs of possessing the quirk of blood bending in the last several generations. Her family was incredibly traditional, favoring the implementation of old techniques in practice. Yongsun was completely devoted to her duties as priestess, in fact, most of her youth was spent traveling through villages as a part of her training in order to become a full–fledged high chi (blood) priestess and eventually ascend to the duty of protecting the sacred gem in place of her mother, Kim Hyeyeong. The sacred gem guarded away in a shrine was a spherical orb forged by the blood of Sanzu, the world's first blood bender and it's creator. This specific rank was considered to be the highest honor and was easily equated to arising to the throne of shibitobana.

chapter II • prologue

Even as a child, Yongsun showcased a strict sense of self–discipline and control despite the criteria of her training often driving her to the edge of her capabilities. Her perseverance, dedication and strong will made her efficient, and as a result, she mastered the art of blood bending within an insanely short period of time. She was a spitting image of her mother and turned out to have taken after her in more ways than one. Her calm and collected demeanor accompanied by a strong sense of compassion, kindness and sympathy merely added to the suitability she had for the role of clan head. Yongsun won the hearts of all with her unspoken grace and elegance, she was incredibly wise for her age and her soft–spoken perceptions were well received by the clan elders who believed all her decisions were directed towards the best interest of the family.

She was pure and uncorrupted, all as a priestess should well be – immune to the saccharine temptations of life and the immortality which came with it. Many anticipated her coming of age as she blossomed into a just and fair maiden with a heart as celestial as she was in person. Exceeding all expectations, Yongsun was considered to be the epitome of what a priestess should be – Hyeyeong had always been considered the ideal preistess, that was, until Yongsun came along and set a new standard for the future leaders of shibotabana. The elders trusted in the sacred jewel and the integrity of Yongsun's soul to know she wouldn't fail the last and final trial that would ultimately bring her journey as a priestess to an end so she could begin a new chapter in her life as the rightful clan head.

chapter III • trials

may the the first blood have mercy upon your soul

The final evaluation of her worthiness involved Yongsun entering Sanzu's shrine and attempting to utilize the haemokinetic abilities she'd mastered to bend the sacred jewel from it's current form to another, and if she was able to do so, Yongsun would immediately succeed the throne. Despite the trust, blessings and prayers bestowed upon her, the elders were fearful due to past experiences. The sacred jewel had a consciousness of it's own, and it hadn't taken very kindly to the countless predecessors who had come and go before Yongsun – all of them having suffered through a slow and excruciating deaths where the sacred jewel passed it's judgement and refused to submit to anyone it deemed unworthy. Kim Hyeyeong was the last (read: and what most believed to be the last) to succeed the trial in generations, but she had already reached an age beyond her abilities and it was apparent the shibitobana desperately needed a new head for the sake of their future.

Yongsun was the first suitable heir to appear in so long and her demise was an unwelcome thought when so many had faith in her. Everyone clasped their hands in silent prayer as she made her way towards the shrine, praying that the traces of Sanzu's soul imbued into the sacred jewel would be pleased with the purity of her heart and ambition enough to consider her anything but another sacrifice. The hours dragged on, and then some more – Yongsun was taking far too long within the confined walls of Sanzu's shrine. Dreading the worst, the elders took it upon themselves to check on her and when their calls for the priestess were returned with silence, they deemed the trial to be over. The sacred jewel sitting upon its resting piece and Yongsun's unconscious form was the only sight they were welcomed to upon opening the doors.

Chapter IV • awakening

your legacy will fly, against a blood red sky

Yongsun had fallen into a deep slumber for reasons unbeknownst to those of the shibitobana. A situation of it's kind had never unfurled before, not even in the age old scripts of history and the clan was left with no alternative but to wait. Days passed, then months, and even years, but Yongsun showed no apparent signs of awakening to the immense heartache of her mother and all those who cherished her so dearly. Four years passed just like that and within that period, the shibitobana did everything they could in their power to desperately find a way to reverse her seemingly eternal sleep, refusing to lose hope as long as she was alive.

However, during this time, the shibitobana became increasingly lenient in terms of keeping the evils at bay and it wasn't long before the hero killers began to take notice. They ambushed without warning, Zenaku (the most infamous pro hero killer at the time) and his men took it upon themselves to rid of the entire shibitobana lineage during the time of their weakness. Kim Hyeyeong rose to her duty, protecting the clan by taking on the whole entourage alone and refusing to let a single one of her own shed blood. She fought valiantly, showcasing a prowess fit for a leader of generations as she kept the evil at bay. However, Hyeyeong had long passed her prime and she could only do so much – she eventually succumbed to the dastardly talons of evil and died a true hero by sacrificing her life to save the ones she held dear.

Just when the shibitobana were about to abandon all forms of hope was when she finally awoke, the oracle who bore witness to the awakening swore on her life she felt the soul of Sanzu inhabiting Yongsun's. With her newfound prowess that transcended that of the predecessors before her, she vanquished the attackers, slaughtering not only Zenaku but the entirety of what was left of his company within moments.

Chapter V • yongsun

Yongsun mourned the loss of her mother, Hyeyeong played a crucial role in her life and she feared the many steps she would have to take upon succeeding throne without her mother beside her. However, with the dilligent support from her clan members and friends, Yongsun rose to the challenge and gradually brought the shibitobana out of it's chaos and back to it's former glory. She ruled as her mother did, peacefully and kindly – triumphing at keeping the clan serene and tranquil as it had been for years. As the years passed, her yearning to pass on her mothers legacy to the world of heroes grew, and as a result, she ended up becoming the elemental controls professor at a renowned academy meant for budding crime fighters.

interesting tidbits

typist's note: These little tidbits are to show just how much the higanbana (with it's many alternative names) also known as the spider lily, is such an influential part of Yongsun's history. it also shows how it's revered as the symbol of her family and how it defines her as a person.

– her mothers name Hye–Yeong is derived from Sino Korean with (hye) meaning confer kindness or bright, intelligent and (yeong) meaning petal, flower, brave or a hero.
– her clan is named after an alternative name of the higanbana (spider lily), shibitobana (deadman's flower). This also inspired Yongsun's hero name.
– Higanbana literally means "the flower of the afterlife" and is associated with the Sanzunokawa River (similar to the Styx). The clan elders assume the name "Sanzu" is derived from this as well.
– The elders say Higanbana are actually the deceased reincarnated into the form of flowers so it is deemed sinful to pick the ones that grow in their household.
– By having such an ominous name while also being a fataly poisonous plant, it is associated with death and is considered a bad omen. However, it is also a symbol of reincarnation and the blooming represents changing of seasons – the dual meaning being the main reason why her family chose it as their symbol.
– In the language of flowers, Higanbana represents: loss, longing, lost memories and says "Let us look forward to seeing each other again." or "you are the only one I love."
– It is said that if you meet a person you'll never see again, a higanbana will grow in the place you last said goodbye. Yongsun said her last farewells to her mother just in front of the koi pond in their home before her trial. A massive higanbana cluster now blooms in the same spot seasonally without fail.
– they usually bloom around cemeteries and are often used at funerals.
– Legend has it that the scent of the higanbana will bring back all the beautiful memories of the dead one last time before they cross the Sanzunokawa River.
– The higanbana has a gentle and aromantic fragrance, nothing overpowering. It has a generally predominant vanilla scent and Yongsun wears a hairpiece that exudes this same tang since it serves as a constant reminder of her mother.
– Yongsun awoke from her slumber during the autumnal equinox which coincided with the time of attack upon her clan. the higanbana also known as the "equinox flower." blooms at this time and the elders consider the timing of events to have been heavens retribution for what Zenaku did.
– the name "Zenaku." literally means evil.
– The clan often refers to Yongsun as their "hurricane lily." which is another alternative name for the flower. The term originates based on the fact that the higanbana blooming after heavy rains (hurricane season) in late summer and fall. She is compared to this after her act of heroism – the calm after the storm.
