ARTIST
"The Jabberwock, fictional character, a ferocious monster described in the nonsense poem “Jabberwocky,” which appears in the novel Through the Looking-Glass (1871) by Lewis Carroll. Alice, the heroine of the story, discovers this mock-epic poem in a book that she can read only when it is reflected in a mirror. In the poem, a father cautions his son to avoid the Jabberwock, a fearsome creature that attacks with its teeth and claws. Upon encountering the demonic beast, the boy-hero slays and beheads it with his “vorpal blade,” much to the joyous relief of his father."

PERSONALITY
there isn't much to say about yuto's past.
like many others, he was an orphan, left outside on the porch of a tiny orphanage in a discreet, sleepy little village. he never knew his parents, but he never once blamed them – had he been in their position, he would have done the same thing.
for the first few years of his life, everything was well. he was a normal, carefree child, babbling and tottering about in the walls of the tiny orphanage. yuto was considered harmless – a happy little thing that smiled and clung onto all the adults and had no qualms about sharing his toys with the other children. in fact, he was one of the favorites of the orphanage – SO OBEDIENT, EAGER, AND EASY TO PLEASE THAT the owner felt as if he was her own son.
but then he turned five. on the morning of his birthday, the owner of the orphanage woke to find that all the children in yuto's bedroom had passed in their sleep. the room looked entirely different – rot and mold and grease and decay littering every inch of the walls and ceiling. it had smelled awful, the scent of decomposition and fester permeating through the walls of the tiny house that had once been called a home.
yet there yuto slept, the lone survivor among a massacre of fourteen children.
it was his power, they all discovered. from that day on, something about yuto seemed... wrong. all the adults around him didn't understand – he was just yuto. he was just the sweet five year old boy that cried every time his one of his brothers and sisters cried. he didn't seem to have any clue about what was going on either – in fact, it was heartbreaking to hear him ask what had happened to all his siblings. but no one could deny the fact that yuto had been the only one that had survived among the fifteen orphans in a single room. and no one could deny that wherever yuto walked... decay followed. everything seemed to rot in his presence, to wilt and to wither – leaving behind the stench of something unnatural.
unholy.
they tried. they really did. they tried to accept yuto despite his terrifying, unknown new power. he was taken into the home of a young couple after the owner of the orphanage was left to grieve, and for a while, it was alright. they told him that they were his new mommy and daddy, and he received the news with absolute delight. his new parents were good, wonderful people – despite the shiver of fear and disgust that crawled down their spines everytime the young boy touched them, they perservered. they were determined to show the whole village that yuto was just a young boy, and that the incident in the orphanage had simply been a fluke.
a few months later, yuto woke up to the whole house reeking of decay, his new parents' decomposing bodies still and silent in their beds.
unease washed over what was once a peaceful, sleepy little village.
but they weren't monsters, no – they weren't just about to abandon little yuto simply because of his unavoidable circumstances. so they tried to understand his power, to help him control and master it in order to avoid any more deaths. for a while, that worked too. yuto was passed around members of the village that were willing to take him in, all of them being too fearful of the boy's ability to take him in permanently. for a few years, this system worked fine. although it was a bit tiresome moving around and having to deal with the uneasy, terrified looks he'd get from every single villager, yuto smiled. he was too young to realize it then, too young to understand exactly what he was capable of.
one morning after yuto had turned seven, half the village had rotted. crops had withered, animals had died, and the population had decreased by half of its inhabitants. no matter how hard they all tried, it was impossible to rid the village of the decay and death and suffering that yuto had released upon them.
so they flew into an outrage. called him a sin, a freak of nature, an unnatural existence that should have never been born. they were grieving, yuto understood that – even at his young age. but that didn't mean it didn't hurt.
in fact, it hurt a lot – so much that another ability of his came to life – disaster inducement. he brought a famine upon the village, rotting what little was left of their crops and animals, causing the land to be barren and hopeless. typhoons wrecked the once peaceful land, leaving a few heartbroken survivors that were terrified of this young boy, this sign of death and despair.
so they tucked him away from their village, deep inside a tiny little cottage that was miles away from any human life. they gave him supplies, and once a month, a brave volunteer would come to check on him and bring him groceries. an even braver volunteer (usually someone from outside their province) would come by to teach yuto all that a child his age should know, so his needs were met.
except, he was lonely. all the trees around him withered. all the animals and pets that crossed his path squealed in terror. those that were foolish enough to stay anywhere near him began to rot, to decay – just like everything else that dared to go near this boy that had been forsaken by nature.
he was so lonely.
who wouldn't be?
but he wasn't always alone. the only "friend" he had was his teacher, who ignored all the rumors of the boy that felt like death living in a cottage surrounded by a dead forest. to her, yuto was a student, first and foremost. her job was to teach him, and he never thought to ask why she was so willing to risk her life simply to teach a lonely young boy.
but teach him, she did. yuto was an excellent, obedient student, and she grew quite fond of him. after all, yuto was just desperate for any kind of company, and any thing that would keep his brain from rotting, which is why he always paid close attention to her. to him, she was a saving grace, a light at the end of his lonely, isolated tunnel. she spent years teaching him about the world, about superpowers, and he eventually learned more about his own ability on his own.
they called it nature forsaken – an apt term, yuto thought.
there was no instruction manual for such an ability, as it was incredibly rare. the only wielders of such powers were villains hell bent on hurting others in order to fulfill their own wishes, and yuto wasn't that. he had always, always been a peaceful, loving child, desperate for someone else to see him and love him the same way he did them – and that part of him hadn't rotted away. he wanted to use this power for good, wanted to see the smiles on people's faces as they lived to see yet another day. he wanted to help people. he wanted to be loved.
"i want to be a hero."
it was a foolish, futile wish – the wish of a child who had yet to taste the reality of the world outside, and yuto knew that. this power, this curse – it wasn't created to help people. it was a freak of nature, an ungodly abomination, an ability that should have never existed –
yet, yuto wanted to help people. he wanted to save people. he wanted to see the grateful smiles on their faces, wanted to hear the cheers of a loving crowd that would accept him despite these powers he had never once asked for.
maybe he thought that being a hero would somehow save him.
and so, he studied. he learned to control his power somewhat, and was able to keep it from escalating to the point that innocent lives would rot away. his teacher helped him to the best of her ability, guiding him towards the right path, and supporting his dream. he was so grateful for her, so thankful. for the first time in a long time, he felt loved, accepted. to her, he was a hero already, fighting to overcome his circumstances in order to help others. maybe it was the taste of that love from her that made him greedier, hungrier for more – because he threw himself into his studies, focusing on nothing but the future that lay ahead of him.
he should have been focusing on her.
in the middle of a session, she collapsed – her breathing was labored, her skin cold and clammy as she struggled to move without grimacing in pain – and yuto's heart dropped down to his throat. he thought that all his efforts were fruitless, that he hadn't learned to control his powers at all and he was doomed to kill everyone he loved until the day he died. he began to cry, to weep for the death of the only person that loved him despite his curse and for the death of his foolish, childhood dream.
but she looked up at him, and she told him the truth.
she had been rotting a long, long time ago – cancer, he was told. it was the reason she had ignored all the rumors in favor of helping this lost, lonely child so desperate for even a single person to love him – she was doomed to rot anyway. why not help someone in her last few years alive?
"you're already a hero to me, yuto," she whispered. "so much stronger and braver and kinder than anyone else i know. if there's anyone in this world that was born to be a hero... it's you."
she passed away a few days later.
and so, yuto cradled his broken heart in his hands, and fought his way to sora academy. but deep inside his heart, in her heart – he knew he was already a hero.
having had barely any human contact his entire life, yuto is... a difficult person to handle, should anyone choose to hang around him (usually, no one does.)
his emotions are rather dull, and he doesn't feel anything too intensely, which is why he's not as hateful or angry about his situation as he should be. one can say he's apathetic, but this is because of medicine he takes to dull his emotions in order to keep disasters from happening (details in the abilities section). as a result, he can't empathize very well with others and sometimes doesn't understand some social cues and aspects of society in general.
he mostly keeps to himself as the other freshmen have heard the rumors, so he's not familiar with his batchmates. he's quiet and barely shows any kind of emotion on his face, so while he may be happy on the inside, he looks as if he's considering unleashing his power on everything around him – the curse of the resting face.

to put it simply, nature despises the very ground that yuto walks on.
yuto's general presence causes death, rot, and decay, killing everything and everyone that's within his vicinity. every step he takes on the greenest and healthiest of grass immediately turns it brown and withered. animals absolutely despise him – he's never been able to touch an animal in his entire life.
it's not just animals that hate him, however. there's something... wrong about yuto, and it's difficiult to determine exactly what about him makes him seem so... unnatural. approaching him will cause a chill of fear and confusion to run down your spine, no matter who you are. the aura he gives off feels so incredibly off putting that most people just avoid him – which he's fine with. they're safer that way.
it's impossible to turn this ability on and off, so yuto has instead learned to regulate it. unchecked, he could cause the death and decay of entire civilizations, which is why he's learned to limit the range of his power. it's similar to a force field that surrounds him 24/7, so he's learned to make this "force field" small enough to cover only his body. however, this means that he must focus on limiting this range all the time. if he loses control over this ability for even a second, everything around him will start to rot.
as a result, yuto often sneaks away to isolated areas in order to take a break from keeping the range of his power limited. he tries to choose places that don't have too many living things, but beggars can't be choosers. however, if he focuses, he can increase the range up to a maximum of four hundred meters.
yuto can also focus his ability onto a single target. he doesn't do it often, as it results in a quick yet painful death and decomposition, but the victim will rot incredibly quickly. the sensation of rotting is by no means painless, which is why yuto avoids people like the plague – imagine all your functioning organs and body parts beginning to decay instantaneously – it's not pretty. he can touch people without making them rot, but it requires an intense amount of effort and concentration, which is why he just doesn't touch people and keeps himself as covered up as possible. gloves, clothes, sweaters, masks and the like make it much easier for him to have physical contact with others.
another effect of this curse makes yuto even more dangerous than he already is. he can cause disasters, such as earthquakes, tsunamis, typhoons, famine, and the like. he can't control them or stop them – he can only cause them. he does this when he feels any kind of intense emotion, which is why he takes medicine in order to suppress his feelings.
in conclusion, the official name for this power – nature forsaken – sums up the entirety of yuto's ability, which is deemed more of a curse than an power. yuto is truly abandoned and despised by the world around him, simply for being born.
