Taemin was born as a prodigy child, his future already paved for him even when he was little. Growing up, he stood out from the other Uglies because of his naturally pretty looks, hair kept long and subtly doted on by the robotic caretakers. However, this caused many whispered conversations to be held behind his back, ones that sometimes wouldn't escape his keen ears. There was a huge amount of stress put on him, the kind that should have broken him completely into the Committee's obedient tool. Pressure to succeed, to become flawless, to maybe even rise to a seat of power in the Committee itself. His childish heart never wanted that, but he possessed the intelligence to realize that nothing good would come out of direct rebellion.
Instead, he locked himself away behind a bright, cheery mask that was always willing to please authority. Rising through the ranks as a human was easy for him. When his time to die was approaching, of course many thought he would choose to become a cyborg. It would allow him to continue to live with his now flawless face and also, the alternative was hardly encouraging, especially since Taemin had lived a relatively lonely life up to that point. However, he chose to become a hologram, stating that he wanted to contribute to making sure that The District would always run smoothly. In reality, he wanted to look for loopholes, anything to bring the system down. Because of this, he always hides behind a fake cheery smile. The problem is, sometimes the central server malfunctions and he loses sight of his goal, leaving some pretty interesting incidents.
