Baekhyun was an accident. And in hindsight, he considers his entire life to be a string of mistakes, held together by his own will, starting with his birth.
They met at a bar. His father, recently disowned by his family for his gambling addiction, connected with his soon-to-be wife, a college dropout. The reason for her expulsion?
Heroin.
It was a complete miracle that she had managed to stay clean throughout her pregnancy with him. It was astounding— Byun Baekhyun was born May 6th, a healthy, untouched baby. His mother called off any more children after him, her needs more important than the family that Baekhyun utterly needed. When he reminisces upon his childhood, Baekhyun finds it unbelievable that his parents, two utterly ed up individuals, were able to unify and put aside their selfish needs to raise a child.
His family, though dysfunctional, worked for a little bit. His mother, on the slow and bumpy road to recovery married his overworked, gambling addicted father. This was the way it was, until it wasn't.
When Baekhyun was eight years old, shy of his ninth birthday, his mother fell back into her deathly habits. As much as his parents tried to shield him from their issues, Baekhyun was a smart child. He knew that his family was falling apart, set on a timer bound to explode.
Baekhyun's father, who had slowly but surely put aside his addictions for the sake of his son and his family, became fed up with the habits of his crazed wife. An affair began, and as much as he attempted to conceal it, his wife (when she was not on a crazy drug-driven rampage) was an intelligent person. Not only was she smarter than the average druggie, but she was absolutely mothering crazy.
One night when his father came home, he met his wife yielding a knife. And that was the end of him. It was first degree murder, a life in prison to his mother and a greeting to the foster system for Baekhyun.
Growing up in the system was the bane of Baekhyun's existence— through the tortures he lived through in foster care, Baekhyun became absolutely sure of how he wanted to conduct the rest of his life. Though everyone tried to shield Baekhyun's eyes when it came to his mother's addictions and eventual murder, he was like his mother in the way that no matter how much people tried to hide something from him, it was inevitable that he would discover it himself.
