Raised in the forests surrounding Seattle, in the Olympic National Park, Dove had lived a very sheltered life. Her days mostly consisted of playing in fields of flowers or taking homeschooling lessons from her mother with her older sister. She knew from an early age that she and her family were different from humans, and that was why they had to stay secluded and safe. They were outcast from the Seelie courts for a reason she had never been allowed to know. Her father, a prominent writer, always produced his screenplays under a pseudonym and supported them comfortably on his earnings. Her world seemed perfect to her, though, until she awoke one morning, days before her 16th birthday, to the thick smell of smoke choking her lungs. Her house and the forest around it was on fire. It had been a long, hot summer, and forest fires had been rampant. It was an unfortunate shift in the wind that had brought the fires in their direction and it had been quick, and devastating. Too quick to evacuate.  Her family had always had an escape plan, one that her parents had ensured both children knew as soon as they were old enough to walk. Crawling under the smoke, small and quick, she managed to get out of the house. Following 'the plan', she fled to the clearing just a few hundred yards from the house where the faerie ring was, and sat quietly in the midst of the mushrooms and toadstools, hugging her knees and waiting. Hours passed, and no one else came out of the house. The smoke had consumed them in their sleep. Her home was ashes by the time the fire-crew made it that far out. It was in the papers that day, how a young girl was miraculously found untouched inside a faerie ring when the forest all around her burned to the ground. For 2 years she was bounced around in foster homes until she finally landed on her feet in California, and built herself a tentative life alone, earning her yoga teaching certification, as well as a degree in exercise science. At some point, her loneliness got the best of her, and a late-night internet search helped her find a place where people like her lived. With no plan or idea if this would work, she packed her bags and left the next morning.
