Joshua is the edlest of 11 brothers and sisters, coming from a poor family. His parents didn't have any money to hire anyone to help on the farm, so they instead had a lot of kids that could work for them. However, with Joshua being the first born, when he got older, it was much easier to have him help raise the younger siblings, until they were old enough to work on the farm. So this meant that joshua did a lot of cooking, cleaning, and any handy work that the house needed. He would go to the town market selling whatever he could on days that he wasn't cooped up inside the house. 

When Joshua was 16, people from the castle came looking for anyone they could bring into the castle as a servant, and buying children off from their families. As Joshua's family was poor and after they had no use for him in the house the saw that it was the perfect opportunity to get them back on their feet, instead of living day to day. So Joshua was brought to the castle, and only saw his family on days that he was able to visit the castle town.

Joshua is typically a kind and caring guy. He doesn't like to say things that would offend other people, as he over heard his parents saying that there was no more use of him at the home so he knows how words can hurt people easily. He helps out others alot to make sure that they won't get into any trouble for not being able to complete their job.
