- Born into a poverted working household, his father passed away before his birth, and his mother worked on the docks selling beaded jewelry and miscellaneous knick - knacks to tourists of Omelas
- Attended school due only to his mother working multiple jobs in order to afford it-- meets Jimin there
- Becomes attached to the hip with Jimin throughout a majority of their adolescence
- A plague begins to spread throughout Omelas when he is 16, wiping out most impoverished families near the sealine
- His mother is one of the many dead
- Becomes filled with rage and distaste toward the rich for not sharing their resources and wealthy medicines
- Refuses to lump Jimin in with the rest despite him being well off and seemingly ditching him with the others
- Forms a band of ragged teenagers who would break in and steal from the houses of the rich, distributing small portions of gold, jewels, and medicine to families who could not afford it
- Plans a large heist one night in a section of the Isle City he had never been in
- Brings eight teens in total and ends up being caught by a male member of the Federation
- One of the boys panics at the idea of being caught red handed and attacks the man with a knife multiple times
- Everyone scatters, including a terrified Hongjoong, who did not manage to see the murderers face before chaos ensued
- Sees the papers posted on the update wall about Jimin’s father and is consumed with horrendous amounts of guilt
- Finds Jimin and tells him the truth about having arranged the theft-- but is taken the wrong way while explaining
- Runs away from Jimin and his face of utter betrayal
- Stays undercover on the island for a year before hiding as a stowaway aboard a merchant ship
- Eventually learns to travel via the sea and begins to scallywag , steal from, and trick others into doing his bidding
- Slowly manages to build his own pirate ship along with a measly crew
- Rides the waves on his ship from the age of 19 until now at 21
- Is now the Captain of the most well known pirate ship around, called the “Pirate King”
- Has plans to find the Lyre after being tipped off anonymously
- Found out he was being hunted by none other than Jimin one day while docked at a random island, his face and name spread throughout the town on wanted signs
