the tale

Chris’ earliest memory only extends far back to when he was first able to recognize the color red. Chris is the descendant of Iracebeth of Crims, the Red Queen. Or so he thinks. As far as him, every one of the Red Queen’s followers and anyone that resides in Malum knows, Chris was born and raised by Iracebeth on this side of the river. No one knew of Chris’ birth secret, not even Chris himself, except for Iracebeth—that he is not the Red Queen’s son but actually her little sister’s son. Chan, his true name at birth, is the son of Marina of Marmoreal, the White Queen.

Once upon a time, the pair of sisters were engaged in a war right above the river. In the midst of all of the chaos and violence, the Knave of Hearts had managed to steal baby Chan from right under his real mother’s nose. It was only after the end of the war and only after the river had been enchanted to keep from anyone crossing the river did Marina mourn the loss of her only child, Chan, and did Iracebeth gain a son of her own, Chris, through theft and revenge.

Chris grew up in a world full of lies but he had no reason to suspect that this world is not supposed to be his. Chris grew up as a prince would in Malum. He was able to get whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted. However, Chris was nothing like the Red Queen. Never abusing his power and never cutting off heads for no reason. Chris was not born to be innately evil and he never will be. However, the Red Queen never used his personality against him. Perhaps, it could have been guilt piling up all these years, but one could not truly know what the Red Queen could really be feeling. And so, Chris grew up comfortably under her care and genuinely did love her like a son would love his mother.

As much as Chris loved his life in Malum, there was always a small part of him that was missing—that felt like he didn’t belong. When the time finally came and Chris was chosen to be one of the select few that was given the ability to cross the river, Chris recognized the feeling of being in the city of Euphoria as if that is the place where he is supposed to be. Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t. it is for chris to find out and to find himself.

Is it possible to throw away your entire life even if it was filled with both love and lies for a life that he was fated to live but know nothing about?

personality ;
chris is the complete opposite of the red queen. when the red queen would resort to cutting off heads, chris would resort to communication and understanding. when the red queen would order her armoured cards to do everything for her, chris would relieve his armoured cards from their duties and demand they play with him instead. living under the care of the red queen, however, had its consequences. violence was a daily occurence and so chris had developed a tolerance for it and an almost nonchalant attitude as long as it didn't involved him. chris is self-less, fit to lead, and burdens his shoulders with responsibility despite him hating the idea of it. chris is a true knight-in-armor as he would rather suffer than let others suffer.
