name : xu jiaqi
nickname : kiki
birthday: august 27
year: sophomore
major: electrical engineering
background:
for jiaqi, life consisted of having to move from one country to another. that was the consequence of having news reporters for parents. they met as foreign news correspondents to rival broadcasting stations – and in a strange twist of fate – fell in love. jiaqi was the product of their romcom movie-esque love story. as journalists for both the papers and stations, work required them to be on the move at a moments notice. both were incredibly dedicated to their craft and too full of wanderlust to settle down in one town.
her first few years of schooling was in south korea, as her parents were stationed there when she was just a toddler. from there, they went back to shanghai to report locally for a few years before they went back to south korea as correspondents. then, she moved to japan for the first two years of high school. she spent the last two years of high school in seattle, after her parents began reporting on a major scandal erupting in the tech industry. jiaqi never minded the constant shift in environment, not to the extent where she would complain to anyone.
growing up in a digital age, where technology gave jiaqi the leverage to keep in contact with her friends from all corners of the world. although she did often miss having face-to-face interactions, jiaqi deduced that there wasn’t much she could do about that at that point in time. this was undoubtedly her motivation for applying to a university in korea. by the time she graduated high school, at. least she would have some governance over where she wanted to go.
despite the unorthodox nature of having to move from place to place, jiaqi thinks her life is rather normal. her relationship with her parents are, okay. although, she thinks they can be over-demanding at times. her grades are above average, and she’s content (read:somewhat stressed) about her life.
it often comes as a point of contention as to why jiaqi chose to become a science major — she liked science. it was as simple as that. she always did well in her science classes and enjoyed the introduction to engineering course that her american high school offered her. her parents were supportive of her, as long as she did well in the path she took.
personality:
jiaqi’s friendly and easygoing on the surface. she likes surrounding herself with people and is very supportive. however, she is also her biggest critic. her definition of prioritizing the self if to continue to seek constant improvement. at times, she becomes a big perfectionist and hyper-focuses on the finer details. jiaqi does not know when to rest when she does take on an important project.
