background!
born and raised in a family of four, ten was originally from bangkok, thailand. growing up, he had a father who worked as a software engineer, a mother who was in the cosmetic industry, and a younger sister by three years. they were a well-off family living happily.
at the age of six, his family moved away from their hometown due to his father's promotion. ten needed to adapt to the language change and culture difference, but other than that getting used to his new life wasn't all that difficult. they even managed to obtain citizenship, officialising ten and his sister as a part of the new country.
however, at the age of ten, tragedy struck the leechaiyakul family. the four had been in a car, driving to their vacation spot. it was a holiday and ten's father prepared something special for the family.
ten didn't know how it happened or why it did. one moment everything was peaceful and safe. the next thing he knew, the car was swerving, and the whole vehicle overturned.
they were driving up a hill too.
everything was a blur in the moments that came after that. he remembered hearing people yelling and light flashing, feeling his body being dragged out from somewhere cramped. someone was screaming "he's alive", and in a blink of an eye which he was sure it had been him passing out, he woke up to a brighter area and being on something soft, rolled to somewhere.
he lost count on how many times he lost consciousness, only recalling bits and pieces through the ordeal. when he was finally awake with his mind intact, he was on a hosbital bed covered in bandages. there were nurses and a doctor with him, and they didn't spare him a second to prepare before being told of the bad news.
he was the sole survivor of the freak accident.
ten proceeded to be put into a foster system once he recovered, though he never brought himself to interact with a lot of the kids there. he mostly kept to himself, not wanting to socialise. although he did talk to the caretakers of the orphanage, it was only when they approached him and actively spoke to him that he decided to reply.
no one adopted ten in the time he was in the orphanage. many couples came, though they only adopted the younger children, not much liking any kid who were older than five. the longer he lived there, the lesser the chance became of him finding a new home.
soon, he was fourteen, and he had given up on finding a new family to belong.
although his otherwise quiet demeanour, he made a few acquaintances along the way. the friendlier kids managed to hold some semblance of conversations with him. ten wasn't brought up to be rude, so he tried not to ignore the efforts of others who were trying to make connections.
very soon, he was eighteen years old and out of the foster system.
ten led a less than ideal life, picking up odd jobs to support himself. sometimes, he would need to do heavy lifting like carrying objects to and fro. other times, he would need to sit for hours on end, like being a cashier. he also tried to gain money online by advertising his services or attempting to provide offers that revolved around his hobby, such as commissions and the likes. there were also those jobs, a part of his life that ten rather not revisit.
at some point, he caught feelings, slept with another man who soon left his life. that was okay, because people come and go, it was just the way of the cycle. having strong emotions for someone only to cut ties with them one day, it was something ten could bear.
what he couldn't bear or comprehend was how he managed to become pregnant from that experience.
he was feeling very sick those times, vomitting his meals and feeling light-headed a lot of the times. someone soon noticed his odd behaviour and brought him to the nearest medical centre, which was conveniently qite clinic. he explained about his condition to the doctors there, who exchanged weird looks amongst themselves.
that was when he met him, the previous head doctor of the clinic, who quickly explained what he was experiencing.
as it turned out, he was no mere ordinary human.
he was a wolf.
to make matters even more complicated, he was what they called a 'rare beta', someone who was able to impregnate and conceive.
eighteen years of his life, being alive and well this whole time, not once had he heard something as outrageous as this.
the doctors, realising ten had no idea who he was, decided to sit him down and gave him a thorough lesson on the existence of wolves and their biology, all the necessary information on who he really was.
the usual wolf would have their whole life to figure this out; ten only had one hour to digest everything.
with nowhere to go, the doctors offered a place in the hospital for ten, allowing him to wait out the nine months of his pregnancy. they had offered an alternative so he could return to his 'normal life', but he couldn't bring himself to befall such fate to the life that had yet to see the light of day. he had made a decision — he would give birth to this child, and allow them a chance at life.
time flew fast — soon, nine months had passed and ten birthed a baby girl.
seeing the little infant with his own eyes, holding her close to himself, hearing her soft cries. it was a surreal feeling, one that he never knew he would come to experience. it was because of this precious angel, as if sent down from the heavens by god himself, that ten had decided to turn a new leaf, to lead a better life than what he had.
during his recovery, ten had planned on what he would do once he was out of the hospital. it was at this time that an idea formulated in his mind, a blueprint of a place which welcomed people like him. growing up not knowing who he actually was, and having absolutely no one to rely on after the earth-shattering discovery, he felt there were others in similar situations as him that would need a sanctuary to find themselves, explore their true nature.
especially in this advanced city they lived in.
after his discharge, ten found a more stable job as a server in a local restaurant. the pay was just enough to get him by each day while also taking care of his daughter. though to achieve his goal, he needed to pick up one other job, which was how he came to do art commissions online.
as time passed, he continuously saved the money he earned from his wages and commissions in his bank, until they slowly piled up. soon, two years passed, and he finaly collected enough money to put his plan into action. using his savings, he hired construction workers to renovate an abandoned store he found in an alley along st mikael's street the other day, requesting them to rebuild it into a more sightly place and make it into a club.
lots of blood, sweat and tears were spent, and ten still needed to earn more money in cases he had to pay extra for unexpected twists in renovations. it was a gruesome process, one where he had to work day and night at the restaurant while relying on calls from the constructors in order to know what was going on at the construction site. at some point, he had to ask help from colleagues at the restaurant or friends at the qite clinic to take care of his daughter while he was gone.
though lots of precious time was wasted on the building of his club, it was all worth it in the end.
on his twenty-secondth birthday, the club was finally done building and ready to be ran. advertisements were spread, searching for workers to kickstart the nightclub. most of these flyers tend to be handed out at the qite clinic, where wolves frequented for check-ups. though it was a long shot, ten still hoped on it. after all, it was the only way he could find staffs willing to give his nightclub a chance.
two years have passed since the opening of children of the night. the nightclub is still up and running and very much alive, filled to the brim with enthusiastic wolves pouring their hearts out in their dances and over drinks. ten's plan to start a safe place for people like himself saw the light of day, and would continue to see so in the time to come.
