if you asked jungsoo about his background, you would be lucky to pry more out of him than the basics: his was a working-class family, his parents stayed married through his childhood, he moved out on his own the second he was legally capable to do so, and he has an older sister that he still keeps in contact with. to learn any more than that about him would require his trust, and that is too difficult to earn for most to try.

for those who do make it past arm's length, his past is not a pleasant one. His parents fought constantly and the tensions were often taken out on him as the only son. the scars his father left on him were mental, emotional, and physical. his parents divorced shortly after he left home, and he was left to wonder if his whipping boy status had been the glue holding his parents' marriage together. he struggled when he moved out on his own, taking whatever odd jobs he could find to earn a living and keep himself fed. He was lucky enough to be pretty even after his father had laid a hand on him so many times, and his pretty face kept a roof over his head almost as often as not through most of his twenties. in spite of not being proud of his past, he would do the same thing again if it was a choice between his shame and his survival.

despite his past, it's not shame that keeps him from speaking of his life before the present. instead, it's his reluctance to get close enough to anyone to come to rely on them that keeps him reticent.  now that he's a little older and wiser, and no less self-reliant, he intends to keep it that way.

While he's usually charismatic, cheerful, outspoken and warm, there's a less sterling side to Jungsoo. his orderliness verges on compulsion, his social striving often leaves him lonely and unlikely to approach even his friends when he needs companionship most, and when he does seek out some form of validation it can be seen as gross attention-seeking more often than not. He often makes up for his faults and what he feels he is missing in his life by focusing on his work above all else. the few times he allows himself to unwind it's usually when he's just shy of breaking.
