in the eyes of an outsider, wonwoo is the gifted prince. aside from being born into one of the four royal houses, his natural capability to learn and understand things better than the average person instantly made him a favorite of many, including his parents and the late king, and it only seemed reasonable that he would take charge of the family once the right time came. no matter what his tutors threw at him — math, history, literature, science, even a couple of sports — wonwoo always took it in stride, no signs of stress visible in his ever-so-calm facade. life was always easy for him, people would say.
in the eyes of his parents, wonwoo is the perfect son. he has everything they've ever wanted in a child; the brain, the looks, and the charm. he is the prime example of what a member of house baekje should be, and everyone in the family knew that — or at least, his parents made sure they would. however, being the perfect son was all he was to them. he was never their son, no, they never saw him like that despite all the words of praise and pats on the back they give him during balls and dinners. to prince jeonghun and lady jieun, he is only prince wonwoo, the pride of house baekje.
in wonwoo's own pair of eyes... there is darkness. that is all he can see when he meets his own gaze in the mirror except for the faintest glint of something in his eyes. perhaps it is loneliness, maybe frustration. he doesn't know. all he knows is that many people approach him with kind words and fake smiles in an attempt to gain his favor, that no one really bothers to look behind the curtains of his cold persona — and that it will likely stay that way. watching others from the side of the room has taught him enough; emotions are too complicated even for wonwoo himself, their unpredictable and complex natures too dangerous to get involved with. yes, perhaps it is better if he leaves that to the ones who are more experienced with it.
