his only duty right now is to advise the royal family and make sure they win the king's throne.
A very calculating person Jongin is. He is one who observes first until he's certain he can strike at the time. He has a lot of self-control ever since the incident with his stepmother. he is an organized person at work, but can't keep his personal life together for the life of him.
His hunger for power has often made him appear as selfish, but he is merely following the same tactics his father has used for decades serving under the house. Honestly speaking, he had very little loyalty to the House of Gaya before becoming the royal advisor. However, he soon had to learn that his allegiance lied within the welfare of Gaya. Although he'll never admit it out loud, he is a big softie when it comes to his dear ones. he tries to hide this because he knows how easy it would be for anyone to use it against him.
in a house full of cunning snakes, it was only natural that kim jongin, too, think and act like one. after all, no matter how many times a snake shed its skin, it's still a snake.
on the evening of his birth, amidst the blood-curdling screams and cries for the pain to go away, his mother died. she hadn't even been able to hold her newborn son. the head maid did, and she immediately put him down in the bassinet. there was a mark under his collarbone. old times called it the devil's mark. his father seemed to believe it was a sign – that his firstborn son had sealed his fate with the devil, that he killed his mother.
however much his father did not want to keep jongin, he was forced to because he could see his wife's eyes in his. if he could not have her, then he would keep a reminder of her, no matter how much it pained him to. despite this, jongin was shunned from receiving any affection from his father. not even the servants filled the void only a parent could fill.
am i so pathetic...not even my father can stand to look at me? each day that went by, the boy accepted his fate: that he was not worth wasting love on.
when he turned six years old, his father remarried. she was the head maid, the same one who had been there with his late mother to deliver him. she had never been fond of him. one night he heard her call him the devil's son to his father.
the elder kim said nothing to defend his son.
when his stepmother had children of her own – one son and daughter – jongin watched his father shower them with unconditional love, with all the gifts they could ask for. jealousy arose within him, but he never had the heart to take it out on his younger siblings who looked up to him as if he was god.
as the years passed by, he grew numb to the cold shoulders and harsh words. immersing himself in studies, he made sure to perfect himself in terms of politics and military strategies – something that his father did as the royal advisor for the house of gaya. this was his only way of proving his self-worth.
at the age of nineteen, jongin was prepared to leave aerok. he would leave and be free. yet, nothing ever goes as planned for someone like him.
as much as he and his father didn't have a close relationship, the elder kim was growing old, and his time as the royal advisor for gaya was coming to an end. jongin knew his father would rather have chosen his younger brother to become the successor. the dullness in his eyes told him that. yet, his father couldn't deny the qualities jongin possessed. and the young boy could not refuse. not when he was given the chance to show just how much worth he had. so he accepted.
his stepmother did not take it well. he was supposed to be the outsider. to her, he was a nobody. but it was the last time he would ever hear her say so.
under construction!!
– i would much rather prefer plotting over winging. i like to have a general idea of where our thread is going.
– please don't poke me! i never forget the replies i owe. please try to do it as less as possible because i'll never poke my partner. if i haven't replied yet, usually i am either busy or my muse isn't there at the moment. but i will always get back to replies. do not use me being active in the chat as a reason to poke me either. it takes a while to respond to pms and replies because i want to give my best effort, not one-liners.
– keep ooc drama away from me. i don't like any kind of drama that isn't ic and consented.
– i don't believe in "you ask, you start." if it makes sense for one person to post the starter, then so be it!
– communication is key! please let me know your limits and such. i never want to cross boundaries and make you feel uncomfortable. also i'm more than happy to create ooc friendships, so don't be shy to talk to me!
– i write in third pov semi/multi-para form mostly. occasionally i'll write novella as well, but it would take me some time for that considering i'm currently taking two summer classes!
– my preferred genres are drama, angst, action, romance, slice of life, however, i wouldn't mind doing others that aren't listed above.
