Background 

Jimin's mother always liked to joke that jimin was dancing before he was walking. With the way the young boy took to dance, it was probably true. While in diapers, jimin found himself entranced by the dancers on the tv shows his mom used to watch. He loved all kinds of dance, but he was especially taken by ballet and contemporary. The way the dancers looked so graceful, it was almost as if they had learned to fly. Jimin's father wasn't terribly pleased when his eldest son asked to be enrolled in lessons at the local dance school, but he allowed it. And if he might've missed a couple of recitals in favor of watching his other son's baseball game, well that was just the price of fulfilling his dream. At 14 he was invited to join a dance company rather than the children's dance school he had grown up in. There he bloomed, but also wilted slightly. Jimin had never been as outgoing and confident as his younger brother, being a bit more shy and prone to the self-critique borne of his perfectionism. Whereas he was at the top of his dance school, being in the presence of so many talented dancers that had trained longer than him made him feel like he couldn't quite measure up. As part of the corps de ballet, at age 17 he did catch the principal dancer's eye. She was impressed by the boy, and played a role in his promotion to Coryphée, head of the corps. Now that he had a few short solos, he felt the attention on him. Everyone was wondering how far would this new boy advance. But Jimin actually turned down the head teacher's offer of promotion to demi-soloist. He still did not feel that he was good enough to take on the role. And so he remained in the position of Coryphée for the next 4 years. At 21, he went to an idol group concert and was immediately taken in. So he changed his goal to becoming an idol.
