Peace is a bridge best crossed by meeting halfway – this concept is best discovered through the scene above. The photograph features two girls meeting, hands intertwined as they lean against an old bridge. The photograph views them through the lens of a passerby; and, to an unsuspecting prospect, they would seem nothing out of the ordinary.
Many of us tend to see peace much like this, as something passive, something naturally occurring. Many of us fail to remember that peace takes work, both from ourselves and all else around us. But if we, like the twins in the picture, agree to walk hand-in-hand and take the first steps into the path of peace, we would find that the finish line lies right in the middle of the journey.
Because peace, foundationally, is built upon unity among the mundane. Peace between people is a consensual decision to reach a middle ground. To shape peace is to hold each other's hand despite all differences and choose to go as one. It is a mutual agreement to each put in the effort, to walk and wait– and eventually, meet halfway.
