❥ background 

 

"learn to shut your mouth and mind your business you little brat.” 

 

the words rang through her ears as if he were still standing in front of her, screaming his head off in her face. it was almost as if she could still feel the droplets of spit flying onto her face, his strong grip on her wrists dragging her out of the room as she wore a blank expression. it wasn’t the first time she’d ended up in this situation, in fact it was so common that she wasn’t even scared anymore. it wasn’t her fault she’d walked in on one of his meetings with his “business partners” and saw the mass amount of drugs spread across the table. nor was it her fault that she’d question the random women in their home some nights, a different one every time. any child would ask questions about these things so why was it that she had to be punished because he did a ty job at hiding these things from her.

 

as she stood in the mirror staring at her now adult body, her fingers began to trace over some of the scars and marks left on her from the abuse she faced during her childhood. an airy chuckle escaped out of disbelief as she questioned how the hell she even survived living in that household. on the outside it looked as if she had the ideal family. sure her birth father had left her early on but her mother had married a rich man not long after and it was supposed to be happily ever after. she was rich, pretty, intelligent, and popular. what could there possibly be to worry about? coming home from school everyday was the most dreaded thing in the world for chungha. she knew the moment she’d step foot inside, she’d be cursed at, spit on, beaten by a man twice her size while her mother sat by in silence. at first it was scary, then it became tolerable, then she’d start to get angry.

 

at some point a switch turned inside her brain and her anger began to take control of her causing her to start fighting back. such a petite girl at any age couldn’t do much to defend herself against a man her size, but that meant nothing to her. whether it was throwing aimless punches or leaving bite marks wherever she could, if he was leaving his mark on her then she wanted to do the same to her. once he noticed her sudden bravery he started to up the stakes. he’d brought his gun out, pointing it to her head as he dared her to fight back now. “one wrong move and it’ll cost you your life.” part of her didn’t care anymore. she was tired of being his punching bag and maybe if he’d pull the trigger things would be easier for everyone. but the other part of her didn’t want to leave her mother stuck with this maniac, and more importantly didn’t want to let him win.

 

from that point on she’d established a plan. she’d graduate high school, attend university overseas, change her name and have to no longer live this miserable life as kim chungha. she’d keep it a secret from everyone she knew, accepting the fact that she’d never see her friends here again, deciding to only tell her mother in an attempt to persuade her to join her escape plan. that of course backfired.

 

very quickly, something in the atmosphere changed. for about a week her step father would no longer lay his hands on her. he’d barely even acknowledge her existence except for the obvious dirty looks sent her way every time they’d cross paths. chungha is far from naive and could feel that this was too good to be true, she just couldn’t put her finger on what was going on. that was until she’d started to notice a suspicious man appearing seemingly everywhere around her. she grew paranoid every second of the day, watching out for his shadow wherever he went, waiting for the day he’d make a move. 

 

when that day came it was obvious she’d been set up. it turned out her mother ended up revealing her escape plans to her stepfather, and he’d decided to put her in a situation she’d probably never find her way out of. he’d stopped hitting her so that her body wouldn’t be too bruised up, and hopefully he’d be able to sell her for a decent price. that’s how chungha got to where she is today, serving her role as a e in aureo rosa. it’s been five years now since she was forced into this life, and she still hates it just as much as the day she started. sometimes she contemplates attempting to run away, or just ending it all for herself so that she can break this apparently infinite cycle of having her freedom taken away. though truthfully, she recognizes that this gang is now the only thing close to a family she has as no one in her life has ever displayed loyalty towards her before, and the money she makes from it is more than enough to use towards indulging in distractions to keep her sane for now.

 ❥ love story   

she'd be lying if chungha said she never thought about being in a serious relationship, but nothing about the idea of it sounds desirable to her. she's always had much bigger issues going on in her life to even put an ounce of effort into a relationship. on top of that, who wants to date someone in her line of work? little to no one. beyond any man who approaches her for anything more serious than what she makes a living off of. how is she supposed to know he's not gonna just hurt her more. therefore, she's not and never has been looking for a relationship, but maybe one day the right person will come along and somehow change her mind.

 ❥ personality 

+ intelligent: most would assume otherwise considering what she does for a living but she was at the top of her class when she was attending school and hasn’t gotten any dumber since then. she’s also more observant than you might think.

 

+ courageous: her whole life she’s always been very brave. she’s been through a lot and seen others go through a lot as well, and her mind constantly reminds her its all or nothing. she doesn’t have time to be afraid in a world like this.

 

+ ambitious: even in her current circumstances, chungha still has goals she plans to reach one day. one day she’d like to actually attend university, travel the world, open a business, start a family, live a normal life. a life completely rid of abuse and gang activities. though it seems far fetched and she doesn’t have the motivation  in her at the moment or opportunity to pursue any of that right now, the hope of achieving those things is all that’s keeping her going.

 

– secretive : “what you don’t know can’t hurt you.” she uses this as an excuse for keeping secrets from those around her. even within the gang she’s never sure who she can really trust, so she deals with the majority of her issues on her own.

 

– spiteful : although she’s smart she’s still sensitive at times and often driven by emotions. this is something she’s been attempting to control because she’s aware that the world doesn’t revolve around her and she doesn’t need to get revenge against everyone who wrongs her, but change takes time.

 

– deceptive : chungha has no problem with leading you on or lying straight to your face to get what she wants. at the end of the day, she has to do what’s best for her own benefit and has grown to be a pretty good liar.
