Once upon the last month of winter in 1991, the whole house of Goguryeo rejoiced as the queen gave birth to a healthy baby boy, their first-born son, they named him Woobin. The former king Yoonsuk prepared all what he needed to be the next heir, he had always have expectations on Woobin since he shows the signs of being the next king. At the age of 5, Woobin shows the interest of reading the Art of War by Sun Tzu and imagining himself fighting bad guys which the king slowly shows his expectation to his first son. He later trained him at the age of 7 by the combat trainers to hone his skills and his potential and again, Woobin never fails to impress his father as he shows how gifted he is. He masters a kind of martial arts called Xingyiquan at the age of 10 and shows his interest on handling guns. But the king prohibited him to use one as he was underage yet he didn't stop him from reading books about guns and how to handle them until he turns 18.

Woobin became ambitious, aggressive and cunning as the king always look at him as his perfect son. However, when it comes to his family he is the role model of his siblings, Woobin cares for his siblings yet he has superiority complex on each of them and that is the fatal flaw of him that the king sees to his son.

When the king was in the right time to tell who will be the next crowned prince, Yoonsuk choses Jaehyun without any hesitations which led to Woobin became angry. The king explains why he choses his younger brother to be the crowned prince, he told Woobin that he is not ready and shown that his gifts turned him prideful and selfish as he looked down on his siblings. His hands shaken, gritting his teeth and his eyes glared at his father with hatred that was set ablazed inside of him. Yoonsuk told him that he will be Jaehyun's right hand yet Woobin refused, he cannot those revelations. He later sent a letter to the king to be one of the generals of the army and air force as they are running few because of war and Woobin volunteers to be one so that he could help them fight their way to outnumber the enemies. The king accepted his letter and sent him to the battlefield where he experienced to fight the real enemies.

During his time in the military, he cut off his connection from his family and the house, not wanting to hear anymore news after his father chose Jaehyun as his successor rather than him. He cannot accept those words, he cannot accept the fact that being the one who is gifted and a perfect prince would not be chosen as the king's successor. What did he do something to not deserve being the successor, the crown? The answer lies within his inner self, his pride.

The day that the former king Yoonsuk passed away made Woobin came home to his house, also knowing that his brother, Jaehyun was killed a few months before his father. Woobin is in the latter of sadness and joy, yet he felt threatened by the presence of the new leading royal in their house. He still couldn't believe that they never gave him the rightful title for him, after all that he had done to make his house a proud one. Now that he came back from Aerok, he changed a bit from what happened and still wanting to get himself as the crowned prince.
