Mark was born in a relatively normal family in Toronto. At least, it felt normal to him, since he was used to the life of luxury since he was a young boy, due to his father being the pastor to the biggest church in all Canada. It didn’t mean he was spoiled however, that was definitely not the case. He didn’t get what he wanted from his parents, even if he asked nicely. Even if he worked so hard to get good results, only to be rewarded with nothing but a “you could do better next time.” Mark wasn’t alone though, he still had an older brother who could apparently do nothing wrong in his parents’ eyes. No matter what he did, he always got praise and appreciation from their parents, whereas Mark just got a cold look, or sometimes not even a look, which made Mark grow resentment towards his brother. Growing up in Toronto meant that people were much more tolerable about things, such as their ualities. As Mark grew up and started spending time with more and more people, he befriended a person who was openly gay and proud of it. Seeing that made Mark want to explore his uality as well. Eventually he discovered that the gender didn’t mean anything to them. He liked people regardless of their genders.
He even tried asking his parents what they thought of homouality. His father was quick to say that it was an absolute sin and that if he were to ever end up with a guy, or even LOOK at a guy in a certain way, his father wouldn’t hesitate to “discipline” him as he liked to call it, which was actually just another word for abuse but he didn’t really know for sure at the time. He wouldn’t lead it at that however. No, he would also disown Mark as he would not consider him his son anymore. Mark often looked to his mother for any type of help and guidance, but every time he looked to his mother, his mother would agree with his father. He wasn’t sure if she was just being a “good wife” or that she actually agreed with the things he said, but at one point he stopped caring about that.
Mark discovered he had a crush on a guy. He really liked him and spent a lot of time talking to him, in school and out of school. However, he was very afraid of his dad finding out, so he went through every possible hoop to make sure that it was private and would stay private. One day, he came home from school, only to see his parents and brother waiting for him. Sensing something was wrong, he just decided to act like everything was okay and slowly walked to the kitchen, asking his family how their days went, when he suddenly heard the stern voice of his father calling him back to the living room. Seeing his brother’s smirk and his father’s angry face only screamed one thing in his mind. Run.
So Mark did, but he was too slow and his brother caught him and held him down while his father kicked and punched him all he wanted. His mother just stood there, looking at the three of them. If there was any regret or sorrowfulness on his face, it was gone as quick as it appeared and in place was a small sadistic smile as she just shook his head and stood there watching. Once his father was done with him, he spit in his face and disowned him like he said he would and left Mark there on the ground, bleeding and crying.
It had been a few weeks since Mark got beaten up by his father and brother and disowned. He had fled his house, or former house and had been living mostly on the streets and sometimes being able to sleep at shelters or at friends. Somehow, most of his friends had somewhat shunned him and were turning their back on him. It must’ve been his father’s doing but right now, he just didn’t care about anything or anyone at all. Eventually after weeks, maybe even months of looking for jobs and places to sleep, he finally got an interview at a company called Neo Tech, which specialized in Technology. Something Mark was good at.
Due to his skills, he managed to get the job and worked his off to make a decent saving. One day, his boss gave him an offer he couldn’t refuse. He was able to go live and work in South Korea at their main headquarters in South Korea. Mark hesitated for a minute but he was quick to accept and go there and just leave his past behind. Mark worked and worked and worked, until he got to where he wanted to be. The Chief Financial Officer of Neo Tech, working directly under the CEO, a man named Na Jaemin. Once his father caught wind of him suddenly being so successful, he tried to make his way back into Mark’s life again, by being all nice to him and telling him how proud he was of him, that he always knew he could do it and that he was his favorite son. Mark never forgave him for what he did to him and never forgot either. He couldn’t forget about that, even if he tried as hard as possible. All Mark could do was just look at the man and smile before turning and walking away from him, leaving him behind in the past for good.
After everything that happened between his family and him, Mark got somewhat mixed up with a "bad crowd" and did some work for mafia gangs here and there too as well as having a regular job. If he made sure to pay off some people, so the mafia could do their business, he would be granted protection and of course, money as well. Who could say no to more money?
